Title: William Paterson DUNLOP (1906-1958)
Post by: Printer on Friday 29 November 24 02:44 GMT (UK)
Hello,

Seeking any details, please, about the parents of William Paterson Dunlop (b 1906 Avondale) who emigrated to New Zealand, with his brother, Robert Dunlop (b 1901?) date unknown. It is believed there was a large family remained in Scotland.

William Paterson Dunlop farmed in Northland, NZ and died 2 Oct 1982. He left a widow and a daughter.

Hoping that somebody can fill in a few blanks. Thank you.

His birth certificate is available from Scotlands People and will give you his parents’ name.

His mother was a Paterson.

His marriage certificate will also give you some family names.

What documents do you have?

Hi Neale1961,

I know that his mother was a Paterson, I was hoping to get details from a Census without having to buy a birth certificate! Thanks.

The census records are also available on Scotlands People.
All records are readily available and are not at all expensive.

Just looking at the index on SP, I suspect his parents were probably Marion Barr Paterson and John Dunlop, who married in 1900, and are living in Avondale in 1901 census.

Thank you for the family grave details.

I am helping a cousin, so will need to consult before tackling Scotland's People.

Hi Neale1961,

Thank you again. These certainly seem to confirm the Dunlop/Paterson connection.

I need to have a look again (myself) at Scotland's People. Regards.

Potential birth (but you need the Dunlop – Paterson marriage cert. to be certain)

Marion McGowan PATERSON (Mmn. BARR) born 1879 Stonehouse.
Parents Robert PATERSON and Margaret BARR (marriage 1877 Stonehouse)

There was a daughter with the name Marion Barr PATERSON born in 1878, who died the same year.

Hi rosie17, Neale1961

That's brilliant, just what was needed, thank you. Interesting to know that
the brothers arrived 3 years apart.

Appreciate all the Census details too. Regards.
