Please could you say what you think the letter is after Farmer for occupation?
I've seen Farmer before, and Labourer, and Agricultural Labourer, but what can this be? I had thought Farmer's son. But these three young men are in the same household, seemingly unrelated, although I haven't looked at that in detail.
Thanks.

I think it is a J for Journeyman. Are you sure it does not say Tanner
-
Tanner - someone who treats animal hides etc, in the manufacture of leather.
-
Like Rosie I’d say that the two similar occupations are Tanner J(ourneyman).
J was the accepted abbreviation for Journeyman.
-
Hadn't thought of Tanner - thanks for that suggestion. Also thanks for journeyman.
There are quite a few with same Tanner/Farmer J on the double page of this census. Perhaps a tannery nearby? Bet that smelled pretty awful.
ADD: Kingsbury St, Marlborough.

You will have to scroll down to Trade and Industry;

Thanks. Interesting.

Here is a map view from 1886 of Marlborough showing a large tannery to the south of High Street, on the north bank of the Kennet. Kingsbury Street runs north from the town centre at the top of the map.

I do love an old map! Thanks.
The British History ref earlier mentioned a tannery in Angels Yard, which is just north of this area.
