Good afternoon
Can someone help me find the service record and / or medal card for George Williams (born 11 Dec 1888 in Lambeth, Surrey). I believe he was in the Army Veterinary Corps at Ypres, Paschendale and the Somme. He was a jockey before the war. I used to have some information but for the life of me can't locate it.
Pretty please
David

There are 2 MRI's for a George Williams Veterinary Corp but one is George E
George Williams (Sgt)
Army Veterinary Corps
Reg number Se2636
Do you know if he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal?

Thanks for the reply. My Gt grandfather was just a George with no missile name. I have no indication of a MSM so that probably isn’t him.
Thanks you

Thanks for the PM. I'll reply on here to bring the topic back on the list in the hope that someone can help you. I have not been able to find anything else.

A search of Medal Index Cards and the Medal Rolls using surname of Williams and service number of 3101 has drawn a blank. I also searched with his surname and Royal Veterinary Corps but this also drew a blank. This suggests that he didn't serve overseas.

Thanks ever so much for looking. What frustrates me is that I am sure I found something but now can't locate it.
Best wishes

MSM were either for long service over 20 years (not applicable in this case) or for gallantry not i the face of the enemy (this changed post WW1). It seems unlikely that a member of the AVC who did not serve overseas would be awarded a MSM.

Thanks everyone for your efforts. I am surprised I can’t find Attestation papers though. Might these have been destroyed during WW2 bombing?

The vast majority were destroyed I am afraid to say.
