Good morning everyone.
I'm not sure if I have already ask this before. If I have I apologise.
I'm trying to find out if there is a marriage certificate for my gran Mary Ann Cooper.
She was married twice. And possibly a 3rd time.
I know she was married to William Young in 1916. And she married Richard seddon.
But in the middle of the 2 marriage.
Apparently she married Robert Turner.
She had son called John to Robert.
From what I can understand she wasn't with Robert Turner long she went back home to her mother and father.
Who are Samuel Benjamin Cooper and isabella.
My Gran Mary Ann. Had 3 son's and 2 daughters.
The daughters are Richard seddon.
They were born around the 30s I think.
Her sons are Vincent Cooper born 1910.
John turner born 1913.
And William cooper born 1915.
From what I can understand from my late half sister Margaret. Mary Ann had John turner with her when she was married to William Young..
Then she went back home. After he passed away taking her son John with her.
She married Richard seddon some time later.
So I'm trying to find out if there is a marriage certificate for my gran Mary Ann to Robert Turner.
My late sister Margaret couldn't find one.
Please if anyone can help me with this.
I would really appreciate it.
Thank you all for your help
Kind regards
Dorothy

Hi Dorothy
I'm having a little difficulty following your message. You say Mary Ann had the child with Robert Turner between her marriages to William Young and Richard Seddon.
But then you say she married William Young in 1916, and that she had three boys
Vincent Cooper born 1910.
John turner born 1913.
William cooper born 1915.
So from what I can see they are all born before she married William Young. The fact the other two had Cooper surnames suggests they were born outside any marriage, so the same could be true of John - just that his father recognised him and his surname was used
Also, in what part of the country did this happen?

A bit of digging around and I've worked out this is in Leigh, Lancashire
Not sure if you have her later marriage
Dick Seddon
Mary A Young
Q2 1923
Leigh Vol 8c, p431
Have also found Mary and the two younger boys on the 1921 census - all using the surname Young

I'm really sorry about the confusion.
Mary Ann Cooper was my gran.
She had 3 son's before she married Richard seddon.
My dad Vincent and his brother William. There fathers are not known.
But John's father is Robert Turner..
My Gran married William Young. 1916.
But he passed away a year later.
From what I can understand from my late half sister.
Mary Ann had taken John with her when she was married to William Young.
After Mr Young passed away. Mary went back home to her parents.
Then she met Richard seddon. Married him and had 3 children. 2 girls and a boy.
I've always thought she had 2 girls.
But I found through my emails from my late half sister. My gran Mary had a son also
I hope this helps with the confusion.
I'm really sorry about that.
Thank you all for your help again.
Kind regards
Dorothy

There's a Seddon/Cooper birth in Leigh in 1929 for a Richard E.
The 1939 register shows, Mary and Dick living with 5 other people, 3 of which are redacted. There is an Alice (b: Feb 1932), but there is also a Mary Ann Turner (b: Jan 1916), maybe John Turner's wife. I think he married Mary Ann Fearnhead in 1934. It looks like two of the redactions could be grandchildren - there are two Turner/ Fearnhead births in 1935 and 1937. The other redaction could be Agnes or Richard, even John Turner
Added: Possible death for Richard in Jun 1931

You have posted on the Beginners board so we haven’t a clue which county to look in as neither your post or reply mentions the location
You haven’t given any birthdate or place for Mary Ann or birthplaces for the boys

Her mother was Isabella Povey & her parents married 1890 Christ Church Bradford
Mary Ann was b March qtr 1891 RD Prestwich
https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/prestwich.html
John Turner was John Robert Turner per GRO online
So basically she had 3 illegitimate children before she married William Young. If she had married Turner - she would have married William Young as Mary Ann Turner & the 1916 marriage cert would show her as a widow. There was no marriage prior to 1916

Thank you all so much for your help.
Now I can understand why there isn't a marriage between my gran Mary Ann Cooper and Robert Turner.
As I've mentioned earlier.
My dad's father is unknown. And so is his brother William coopers father.
It's a bit confusing as my gran Mary Ann Cooper had a brother called William. But he died in ww1 maybe she called my uncle William after her brother. ( my great uncle William)
I believe that my gran Mary Ann Cooper did marry Richard seddon. And has 3 children. 2 girls and 1 son.
I can't remember the sons name.
But the girls are agnus and Alice
I remember when I was a teenager my dad said we have a relative called Alice Cooper. I thought he meant the singer.
He probably meant his mums daughter . I think it would be his half sister.
Which is very confusing.
My Gran Mary Ann.
Having children to different men.
2 of them we don't know the father's name but apparently are brothers. Then there is John turner. His father is Robert Turner.
Mary married William Young. 1916. He passed away a year later. No children.
Then Mary married Richard seddon. And had 3 children.
So I'm thinking they are all my dad's half siblings except for William Cooper ( my uncle)
Thank you again everyone for helping.
I don't know how you all manage this.
I never know where to start. So I ask for help if I can't find what I'm looking for.
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards
Dorothy

The marriage certificate would give his father's name.

William Young was 37 when he died in 1917 so born about 1880.
The marriage was at the Baptist Church Leigh according to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
The 1911 has a possible entry living in Leigh b 1880 Northwich Cheshire & brother in law to James Caldwell
I have asked the moderator to move your post to the Lancashire board
