Presumably something to do with the Pease family of Darlington?

The former Durham County Record Office, now with the trendy name 'The Story', has a collection of records for Darlington College and so that is where I would start looking. The college itself closed in 1978. https://www.thestorydurham.org/our-collections/online-collection/?search=Darlington+College

Try searching Google books.  The prize is mentioned there.

I've seen reference to "Joseph Pease Prize Fund"

My dad did his teacher training there in the 1970's! Must have been in one of the last cohorts to go through. :)
