On my Father-In-Laws NZ WW2 'Attestation for Service in time of war, within and beyond NZ' is stamped "SSR-3"
Grateful if someone is able to tell me what this is/means as not on NZDF commonly used abbreviations?
Many thanks

Just a thought but could it have been USSR and the U not come out?
I found this interesting....

Hi TPB,
I suggest that you contact the National Army Museum to see if they can assist.

Thanks haliared for your posting - SSR-3 is very clearly stamped so I don't think it would have been USSR. I had heard from my MIL that he might have been a 'sniper' but she was not certain?
Thanks also Spades - I have sent a message to the National Army Museum and await their response.
My FIL's file does not contain alot of info. I plan to check the 24 Battalion War Diary for any additional info.
A shame the files were purged in 1949!

SSR is an abbreviation used for sniper support rifle I found out but can't seem to see any more than that, and I don't think that for WW2.
