Hi Everyone. Hope someone can clarify this for me please.
I have a document about a person surrendering a deed of grant to the government and a new Deed being issued. this was because some of the original land was being resumed for infrastructure corridor.
The owner of the land on the new deed then proceeded to take out leases to various persons in return of money with interest.
This was done several times over, as each lease expired.
What I am wanting to clarify is who, during the term of the lease, occupied the said piece of land and or any buildings etc.
Was this a way of using the land to raise cash?
Thanks for any ideas.

No dates, names, places provided in the post.
Perhaps contact the Qld Lands Department and/or Qld State Archives.

Hi Neal,
I didn't add names or dates as it's a sort of general question. But yes it is specific to one person I am researching but I have to be a bit careful what I say and where .Sorry.
The time frame is 1880 -1891 and may be up to 1910. It is a country Queensland coastal area

Hi Essnell, have you checked Trove newspapers online. At times it was advertised who leases were transferred to and from. Might not help but could be worth a try.

Hi Giblet,
Thank you for the suggestion - I will give that a try.

There used to be a thing called share farming, whereby the farmer leases the land for his farming enterprises.

Hi , yes i think that that is more or less what happened.
i am not really sure of what this person did. The document shows that the land was mortgaged to various persons for sums of money with repayments and interest .. but there are other records that make it look like those persons actually lived and worked on the property - like in a lease. The owner was not living there.
I thought that these were leases because of that. I may be wrong.
I think my best bet would probably be to ask at the relevant titles office for an explanation.
It is important as there are so many conflicting anecdotal stories I am sifting through for the real deal.
I will come back and let you know what they say. I will still look at Trove as well.
Thanks everyone for your ideas..
