I recently received a photograph of a tablet affixed to the inside wall of St. Mary's, Llanerchymedd that memorializes Mary Jones Richards. (1848 - 1867). My entry for her in my family tree simply states, 'Married an unknown Jones'. I made that entry years ago and can't now remember the source of that info. Can anyone on the Forum shed any light on the subject; was she engaged to a Jones but died at the age of 20 before they actually took their vows. The tablet was 'Erected by a friend' enhancing the mystery even further and why is she shown as, "Jones Richards". It should, in normal circumstances have been one or the other but having said that, my youngest daughter is named E. Jones Richards, her mother being a Jones.

Logically - if she married a Jones before she died the memorial would have her surname as Jones - not Richards - & would mention her husbands name.
Unless some written evidence can be found - any possible engagement to a Jones prior to her death cannot be proved

She was buried 20.10.1867 as Mary Jane? Richards address Bull Bay Hotel
Death reg is Mary Jones Richards - Birth reg just Mary Richards mmn Owen

No mention of a husband, nor, from the papers, an announcement of an engagement. From the papers its looks like Robert Richards only took on the Bull Bay Hotel in around 1866

Thank you for that Mable.
It looks as if it's just another piece of the family tree jigsaw that fell behind the sofa, never to be found again. I was hoping to complete the picture but, despite the anomaly in the name being so publicly displayed, it will have to remain a mystery. Many thanks.

More information on the family. Three children were buried there.

Thanks for that Wilcoxon.
The three children buried with their father include Mary Jones Richards, her sister, Elizabeth, (1840-1856) and her brother, Robert Davies Richards, (1845-1850). There were seven children in all.
