Title: FAIRBAIRN, Alice May
Post by: squirejay on Monday 04 November 24 16:29 GMT (UK)
I am trying to confirm that Alice May Fairbairn, dau of William Fairbairn and Ruth Johnston, born 16 Jan 1890, emigrated to America in 1929 and died there, possibly in Washington State, as her brother Laing Johnston Fairbairn also went to the States and died in 1955 in Pierce county Washington State.
When she left, she was a matron in a nursing home, and would have thought she would have continued in that line of employment

regards

The 1929 incoming passenger list for New York - age, occupation and place of birth, Duns, all seem to fit. However other evidence would seem to suggest that she did not remain in the USA . There are entries for Alice May Fairbairn in Halifax, Yorkshire in Nursing registers up to 1946. You should also be able to locate her in the 1939 register.

I think this may be the entry for Alice May in the probate calendar " Fairbairn Alice May of 9 Woodlands Road Whalley Range Manchester who was last seen alive on 7 April 1966 and whose dead body was found on 9 April 1966 . Administration 9 June to Ruth Sellars widow."

As far as I can see Sellars was the married name of Alice May's younger sister, Ruth. ( Added Ruth Fairbairn married Edwin Lloyd Sellars in Duns in 1921).

William
