Looking for marriage info on George Whitton, b abt 1814 in Retford Nottinghamshire died 1883 as a result of a tragic accident involving a train.
His second marriage was to Ellen Bell in 1844 in Yorkshire which is where he spent most of his life, his occupation was as a Cordwainer. His marriage certificate clearly shows his Condition as Widower. This where I've come to a grinding halt. Who was his first wife and where & when did he marry her. I've looked through Ancestry with no success so any help is greatly appreciated

Just adding, the 1844 Sheffield marriage has his father as Wm Whitton also a Cordwainer.  George is on the 1841 census in Sheffield on his own.

Wm is on census in Sheffield b abt 1776, occ cordwainer, not bic, with Martha Witton age 10
They are a separate household within a property, the other occupants are John & Mary Hogg with their children.  John Hogg married Mary Whitton at Sheffield Cathedral 15 Apr 1823

Martha married William Proctor in 1849, father William -bot and shoe maker. So looks like two of George's sisters. Martha is 21 in 1849 and b Sheffield, so the move from Retford before 1830, so George's first marriage likely to be in Yorks not Notts
