First time posting, so not sure if this the best way to ask.
Need help trying to read a marriage certificate for Mary Fletcher. In particular it is her parents names.
Looks like John Fletcher, can't work out occupation and the maiden name of the mother. The witness names might also be handy.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Andy

Andy,
Hi, welcome to RootsChat.
Can I suggest you use the report an issue tab at the top right of the image on SP. They will either read it for you or get it rescanned which looking at that is more likely.
They are very nice people!
David
PS I thought I had researched all the Fletchers in Stirling, obviously not!
-
Andy,
Hi, do you have a place of birth for her? That might help to give us a clue.

According to the census, Mary Fletcher/ Hunter was born in Edinburgh about 1824.
So perhaps born before the marriage (unless she lied about her age on marriage) - or maybe illegitimate daughter of one either John Fletcher or Mary Bloomfield?

BURIAL (possibly related to the same couple?)

Occupation of the groom may say “manager”
1851 census James Hunter

Witnesses at the marriage
Archibald Hunter (I agree with reply #2)
Euphemia ? (Cannot make it out. Might it be the groom's sister?)
-
The groom’s parents are named as James HUNTER (carter) and Euphemia GATHERUM
I could not see a marriage for them, but there are these baptisms for their children.
James HUNTER and Euphemia GUTHREME / GATHERUM
Children –
Margaret Hunter 1810 - Newburgh (Fife)
James Hunter 1812 - Markinch
Euphemia Hunter 1815 - Largo
John McVicar Hunter 1820 - Largo
Charles 1822 Hunter - Largo
The surname “Gatherum” is not very common, but it does appear with many crazy spelling variations in the records.
Possible baptism record for Euphemia
29/06/1788 in Largo
Euphemia GATHERIME (note spelling)
daughter of John GATHERIME and Margaret BRAND [married 1782 in Largo]

I thought possibly the groom’s sister (given name of his mother) but I can’t find a marriage that seems to give a surname that could be that.

I have had the same difficulty.

Brilliant, thanks for everyone's help.
The mother's maiden name is Broomfield. I was able to pick it up her death certificate on Scotland's people, although her age was wrong by 10 years, however correct on her burial documentation.
So much other information given as well, very grateful.
I have been struggling with the the various spellings of Gatherum as well.
From the various census, Mary and James were often apart and I was wondering how common this was in the mining community. My ancestors were agricultural labourers/crofters in North East in Aberdeenshire/Banffshire and seemed to stay relatively fixed to the area and together.
Thanks
Andy

Re the 1826 marriage found by Neale, a transcript has John Fletcher's occupation as Private 45th regiment. Mary Bloomfield's father is named as James Bloomfield, a Baker. Residence of both is College.
