I have been doing my family tree for awhile and I have come to a relative that I cannot seem to figure out.
My aunt Jacqueline married a man we knew as John, he was a prisoner of war and was working in Bovington Camp in Dorset when she met him.
Since starting my family tree I have learnt his name is actually Johann Silvester Herfet, what I cannot understand is how he got the name Herfet, He was born in Poland and his mother was Veronica Kaseba and the only thing I can find out about his father is that his surname may have been Labus as I can find a record of Veronika at age 62 with the surname Labus but that is all I can find.

Have you looked at Johan’s marriage certificate to see what his father’s name was there?
Likely marriage registered in Poole, Jul - Sept quarter 1957 Volume 6a page 1588.

I've got it on order at the moment.
