Title: Clara Hochner (German) 2y.o.
Post by: scottishlad on Wednesday 30 October 24 03:10 GMT (UK)
I’m struggling to find any information about a Clara Hochner, born about 1890 in Germany. I have a few census records and the like when she’s older in the United States, however I’m trying to find information about her time in Germany. She left Germany at two years old yet I can’t find any immigration records or any mention of her parents, a birth certificate, death certificate…etc. any and all help would be much appreciated thank you!!

What info do you have already in the US? Census records, where in US, marriage, children, etc

I have a 1920, 1930 census record - she lived in Philadelphia. As well as a couple death/birth certificates of family that has her name on them, but I don’t have her specific birth/death certificates

You haven’t specifically mentioned Passenger Lists. Have you searched those?
I see someone of this name on Ancestry in their Florida Naturalisation section, but I don’t have a sub.
All Germany vital records are held at local level so you need to know the place to be able to proceed.

Ahh ok that explains it then. I’m not sure where she would have entered through.

Don't think this is her. Refers to a Clarisse (Clara) Hochner and is dated in 1981... (refers to Vietnam War)

No that wouldn’t be her. I realize her original German documents will be hard to find, but I figured her death certificate and probably marriage certificate should be somewhat easier given it was in America and I know where. I’ll just have to keep digging!

!! I’m at work so can’t look into too much detail, but that very well could be them. The Stratton’s were from NJ, and their daughter was born in 1910 so that would match up. My grandmother believed the surname to be “Wopner”, I have a couple documents where it looks like Hochner and Wochner…etc. so perhaps it’s just error on my part transcribing or it was misrecorded…etc. thank you so much can’t wait to dive into this!

Yep 100% this is them thank you so much! Mother’s name was Cecilia not Zaezilia. Which was their daughter Mary’s middle name. Appears to have been a family name. Thanks so much again I really appreciate you helping me find this!!
