Title: Restalrig- Leith South, Midlothian
Post by: ab325 on Tuesday 29 October 24 15:24 GMT (UK)
I am looking for information about the Restalrig Old Hospital, Old Hospital House, and Restalrig Village from about 1861-1891.

The family of John and Margaret (Bryce) McLaren are listed as living there on the censuses.
Their children were Margaret, George B, John P, Peter R, and William J.

Was this like a village apartment building? They younger children were listed as scholars. The ones that worked had good jobs outside the residence so it doesn't seem to me that it would have been a workhouse environment.

I found a Restalrig cemetery ledger book that listed John McLaren's interment and where his wife, Margaret, paid for the burial plot. It didn't specify a cemetery name. Where can I find where he is buried? There are most like other family members buried near him.

Found the Old Hospital now the route of Restalrig Avenue.     North of the barracks at Jock's Lodge.
