Title: Edward Owen Williams born c1875 Valparaiso, Chile
Post by: Cockneyrebel on Monday 28 October 24 10:34 GMT (UK)
The above married Martha Ellen Locke (born Q4 1878 Membury, Devon) 25 Dec 1900 at Brighton. He was the son of William Williams 1830-1900 and Alice Weymark 1846-1916. Edward and Martha had 2 children, Adrian Arthur Owen Williams 1903-1984 and Evelyn Gladys Williams 1904-1989 both born in Brighton.
Adrian married Hilda Alice Balcombe 25 Aug 1936 (1902-1992) at Brighton and on the marriage certificate it was recorded that his father was a deceased missionary.
I can find no death record for Edward or Martha and wonder whether they died in Chile or elsewhere?
Maybe I'm posting on the wrong board?

Cyndi's List is potentially a useful way of finding sources of information...

There are Chilean records on FamilySearch but it's several years since I explored them

FindMyPast has a passenger record for an Edward Williams, age 45, occupation accountant, address 46 Birch Road, Crumpsall - destination Valparaiso, sailed 5 May 1921 - alone.

The 1901 Census shows Edwardo Williams, accountant clerk, born Chile, with Martha born Membury. Edwardo's YoB not quite 1875 (= 1880)

If you have access to the 1921 Census check out the children Adrian (18) and Evelyn (16) Williams, born Brighton and note mother's surname.

Thank you very much all, I looked at the 1921 census and found Martha and the children there but I still can't find the death of Edward?

Martha's marriage cert. 1912 should (no guarantee) reveal her married status when getting hitched to Frederick.

I looked at the 1921 Census to determine how many parents were still alive for the Williams' children. Unfortunately, they were above the age where this was required.

Unfortunately it's too expensive to buy the marriage certificate as the don't do a pdf, so we'll have to guess Edward died in 1911.

Have you found any of the the family in 1911? I've drawn a complete blank.
Passenger lists show an E O Williams, merchant + Mrs Williams, Master Williams and Miss Williams sailing for Buenos Aires and contracted to land Pernambuco. Both children are under 12 but the absence of given names/initials for E.O Williams's fellow travellers rules out linking with "your" Edward Owen - so, so frustrating.

So, Brazil, here I come.

PS - I haven't ruled out Edward dying post 1912.
