Title: Elizabeth Davies of Diddlebury
Post by: NicholasJB on Friday 25 October 24 21:13 BST (UK)
Hi

I'm looking for Elizabeth Davies, who married Edmund Howells on 19 May 1766 in Diddlebury. I cannot seem to find her in the parish records, unless she comes from somewhere else or had a different maiden name or something.

The banns were also called in St Mary, Newington. Edmund HOWELS of this parish, bachelor and Elizabeth DAVIS of Diddlebury, spinster.

I note on Ancestry Edmund & Elizabeth had several daughters & two sons, Edward & William both baptised Diddlebury. If they followed the English naming pattern, Edmunds father might be Edward & Elizabeth’s William.

By chance there are these and others more distant:

Elizabeth Davies Baptism 15 Jun 1740 Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire
Parents William & Elena

Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire is 12 miles SE of Diddlebury, Shropshire

Elizabeth Davis Baptism 15 Nov 1742 Stottesdon, Shropshire
Parents William & Ann.

Stottesdon, Shropshire is 10 miles E of Diddlebury, Shropshire

Amended I was amiss on my Edwards & Edmunds.

Edmund HOWELS Baptism 12 May 1743
Shropshire, Diddlebury St Peter: Unspecified

This seems to be the baptism of Edmund, parents William & Martha, so I wonder if this could be Elizabeth.

Parents Edmund & Mary

Elizabeth Davies Baptism 6 Apr 1740 Clungunford, Shropshire

Diddlebury, Shropshire is 8 miles NE of Clungunford, Shropshire

Edmund & Elizabeth had a daughter Mary Howels
Baptism Date   11 Jun 1769

No Martha as far as I can see?

Thanks for that.

Yes, I cannot see a Martha.

I believe William Howells married Martha Harley, but I can't find her parents either.

The William Howells/Martha Harley appears twice on Freereg.org, once 2 May 1735 in Ludlow and again 1 May 1737 in Diddlebury.

There is a baptism for a Martha Harley in Knighton, Radnorshire, about 14 miles from Ludlow, 25 May 1706 parents Richard and Joan.
