Is anybody able to have a look at the baptism records around 1796 for John Maycock from Wootton, Oxfordshire.
The only details I have for him are the 1841 (Charlbury) and 1851 (Stonefield) censuses - both give the year of birth as 1796.
I have been trying to find a death cert for him, but the ones I have seen in the right area are the wrong age. I know the 1841 ages are often rounded up, but I don't think the 1851 ones were.
Can anyone help?
Roger

There's a Will of John Maycock, Yeoman of Charlbury , Oxfordshire, 1776

It is transcribed here:

He married Phillis Wright on 29.10.1827 - Shipton under Wychwood. marriage entry says he was “of ?? Compry Park - said to be in the parish of Charlbury”

The 1863 death seems to be quite likely but the informant is "Sarah Griffin" who doesn't seem to be a family member.
And the age is an issue. The 1851 census gives the birth year as 1796 so the death age is around 3 to 4 years out.

Thanks for the Will info. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the person I am looking at due to the family members and being an ag lab.

Regarding the marriage, I have always considered the "Of" to be Cornbury Park where I assumed that he probably worked and lived. But the birth place on the 1851 census is Wootton which is less than 10 miles away.

Regarding any 1861 census, I have been unable to trace any of the family members. I have assumed that they either weren't polled or the pages have been lost. Unless any Rootschatters can discover them!
