These were found in my wife's grandmother's stuff......Born 1905.
Very poor photo quality taken by Henderson in Auchterarder
Think they may be her father b Lithuania 1875 and mother b Belarus 1881
Married Bothwell 1902 and lived in Lochgelly, Fife.
Any clues to the date and anything about their clothing would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not an expert so won't hazard a guess at actual dates but I think these photos could be of people a generation or more earlier than you've suggested. Could your wife's grandmother have had any other ancestors living in the area in the middle to late 19th century?
I hope moving it up the board will get one of the experts to enlighten us.

Style of their clothing and hair style of female suggest mid to late 1860s.

Agree with Gadget 1860's.

Thank you for the information about 1860's which rules out the Belarussians and Lithuanians who came over to Dundee around 1900 and actually met in Scotland before going on to follow the coal in Bothwell and Lochgelly.
Certainly have two sets of grandparents born about 1840's who may fit the bill coming from Gilmerton and Bo'ness but no family from anywhere around Auchterarder.........
Be interested to find out if anyone has details on when Henderson's Photographer was actually situated in Auchterarder.
Thanks again.

I'm not sure if this is of any help but Auchterarder is mentioned in this list. You have to contact the site owner for details though.

Doesn't mention Auchterarder itself, however there was a libel case in 1866 brought by photographers in Perth. John HENDERSON and John HENDERSON jnr, father and son, both photographers sued by James PORTER, photographer. John jnr is of George St, Perth.

Logos on the back of 1860's photos were quite basic but often included an address.

"The Early Photographers of Perthshire" by Roben Antoniewicz and Paul Philippou mentions Peter S. Henderson, Auchterarder. An example of his work from Perth Museum & Art Gallery, "unidentified woman 1889-1901" shows a mount identical to the ones here.

The reason the card stock is the same is because these
are copies of the originals those being 1860's.
