Title: william lewis Rees born 1879 3rd quarter pengam wales
Post by: buckleys chance on Wednesday 16 October 24 04:10 BST (UK)
Hello People.  I have applied for William Lewis Rees birth certificate, REES, WILLIAM  LEWIS mothers maiden name WALTERS  GRO Reference: 1879  S Quarter in BEDWELLTY  Volume 11A  Page 121

I can see that his is on 1881-1901 Census records with his parents (William and Naomi Rees - nee Walters) mainly in the area of Pengam, Bedwelty.

In 1911 and 1921 it's possible he is with a Lillian Rees (1921 census) but I have yet to confirm this.  I've yet to search the Welsh Newspapers.  If anyone can shed some light on this, I would be grateful.
Regards Elaine

GRO search gives a son born 1910 mmn Davies.

If information on the census you mention is correct, then there should be a marriage c1908.
So far I cannot find a Lilly/Lillian Davies marriage to William Rees although she could have been married previously and given her birth surname on her son’s registration.

Agree with Glencare -  In 1921 they appear to have a number of sons born pre 1911 who were not living  with them in 1911.  Could these be from a previous marriage :-\

Can I ask please if you are following the family line back from one of William’s children? If so is it Gordon or another child or a different route entirely?
The reason I ask is I have found records of a Gordon Rees born 1910 with a different Davies mother that may have links to a William Lewis Rees.

An obituary for him says he had 3 sons and 3 step sons surname Collins, one being Gordon.

Hello Glencare.  I have found a 1911 Census with William Lewis Rees - coal miner - hewer. From Pengam Monmouthshire.  Wife Lilly Rees from Newport.  Both aged 32.  son Gordon Rees (1yo).  The age of William fits and his place of birth.  Regards Elaine

Lillian Rose Morgan married Samuel Edgar Collins Sep 1998     Pontypool    11a   170.

They baptised 4 sons at Cardiff St Paul's Grangetown Cardiff 16 Dec 1909: Samuel Leonard. Leopold Albert, Percy Arthur and Gordon Stanley Collins.

11 Jan 1910 Western Mail reports that Lily Rose Collins of Clive street. Llanishen, applied for and got a separation and mainetnance order from her 1st husband who was living in Bertram Rd Hendon. Lily had returned home to her father's in Cardiff but husband had not sent any money to maintain them after losing hos job as a clerk in London. She also stated he had been violent towards her. He asked for and got custody of their eldest son who was probably Samuel Leonard Collins.

Presumably they must have divorced

Thank you Kay99.  Other people have also responded to me about William.   I appreciate your input.
I have since learnt about a 1934 newspaper article regarding his death.  It states that  William's father in law L A Challicom was in attendance.  That would suggest that Lillians birth name would be the same.  Also in the article it mentions his step-sons Gordon Collins and Bert Collins.
In the 1921 census there is William and Lillian Rees with Sydney, Leonard, Bert, Gordon, William, Reggie, Cecil.  I'm about to purchase a marriage certificate between William and Lillian which will hopefully point me in the right direction.  Regards Elaine
