My great grandmother Alice May Curry nee Walker was born in Woolwich in 1894. Her parents were George Edmund Walker and Helen Hannah Lucy Oswald. When I look at the family of Helen they seem to have been in Woolwich generations, but basically all lines lead to Scotland eventually. Some as far back as the mid 18th century. This seems to suggest a fairly tight knit community of Scottish in Woolwich given these Scottish-descended families intermarried for so many generations. Does anyone know anything about this?

I think it's more to do with Woolwich's long term association with the armed forces.
