According to 1901 census John Price was born Pwllheli 1856 !891 his birth place was Llanllechan He was married to Elizabeth Evans abt1861 Aberdare
Apparently they married in April 1886 in Llanwonno Glamorgan His father was Moses Price a Quarry man but I cant find him anywhere up north or down south
Can anyone help
-
When you say you can't find him any anywhere - when do you mean - pre-marriage or post 1901?
Please post full 1901 details
-
I can see him on his marriage, on the censuses from 1891-1921, and his burial on 16th July 1923. Also the burial of Elizabeth on 19th January 1924.
However, I can't see anything before his marriage.

Sorry I mislead you I am looking for his father Moses the Quarry man I have been looking around the Pwllheli area but I didn't think its were quarrying but more likely Llanllechid near Bethesda
-
If you are looking for Moses should your header read Moses Price rather than John Price?
-
John may have made up a father - a Moses Price seems to be hard to pin down in Caernarfonshire
-
Thanks sorry x

The first Moses Price marriage in Wales was 1857 Bridgend & the next wasn't until 1861 in Bedwelty
Very few Moses Price Welsh census entries have a birthdate in line with an 1856 birth

There were in fact several stone and granite quarries around Pwllheli.

There was a Quarry in Pwllheli. It was a fairly big employer. It was called Gimblet Rock quarry. It was a granite quarry making road sets, but also supplied ballast for the shipbuilding industry in the town.
I’ve seen employees called rock-man and miner in the census.
Pwllheli is split between Denïo parish and Abererch parish. You won’t find entries for Pwllheli unless it’s an error or entered by someone who doesn’t know the convention e.g. from outside the area.
There is a Price family in the Abererch parish but it’s unclear from your post exactly where your John Price is in the census record. It sounds like there’s a mistake in his birth place. Where was he in 1901?

The only John in the area is with a family in Cil Llidiart, Abererch Parish. His father isn’t Moses though, it’s Griffith Price. They’re in the same address when John was a child.
It’s not clear from your post where you got the moses name from. Did you get this from a marriage certificate?
-
yes, the marriage registration states father Moses Price, quarryman.
He's moved south by the time he marries - he makes his mark on the registration which might mean an error wouldn't be spotted
1891 - Tylorstown with Ferndale. Place of birth llanllechan
1901 - Ferndale, Place of birth "Pwlleli"
Griffith Price's son looks to be someone different - he's John J Price on 1871 and can still be found in Pwllheli in 1891
-
Got it, Rhondda. Yes I can see it’s definitely Pwllheli in 1901. 1911 it’s Llanllechan, there’s nowhere near Pwllheli with anything similar to this. Llanfairfechan, Llanllechid maybe, but they’re not close by. The villages near are Llanbedrog, Llannor, Llangybi, Llithfaen, Llanaelhaearn.
A search for Moses doesn’t come up with obvious candidates either.
It could be that he gave a false name or a substitute at least. I’ve seen questionable names on marriage certificates.
Your only option is to try to trace a birth record for him and pay £3 for a transcript through the GRO. Hopefully you can get a mother and father from this.
Have you found him in an earlier census? There was nobody obvious in a search of 1881.

There’s two john price in Pwllheli in the FreeBMD website. The one you’ve discounted and a second:
John Price Pwllheli 11b 419 sep 1855
A search for this reference in the GRO brings up a maiden name of Jones for the mother. You can pay £3 for a scan copy. Hopefully if he’s the right one it’ll also give you an address, fathers name snd mother’s name.
Good luck!
