Title: How to see more than 3 shared matches at Ancestry
Post by: neelawson on Saturday 05 October 24 20:44 BST (UK)
I want to see my all shared matches but Ancestry apparently now show only 3. I clicked on the link where it said I'd have to have a new membership to see all my shared matches and the cheapest option is £13.99 a month but that also gives me access to UK and Ireland records and all sorts of DNA features like traits that I don't want and don't need. I'm only interested in paternal matches  and those will have Germanic/Polish ancestry. I simply want to see who my matches are and who my shared matches with them are so I can explore links between them. I rarely visit Ancestry as I rarely get new paternal matches there that are more than 25cM - the last was about 18 months ago - and it's only those that interest me. So I could be paying for years without getting any useful information and be out of pocket by £100s.

MyHeritage are good for European DNA matches.  You can upload you Ancestry DNA to MyHeritage for free until 6th October.

yes I already have my DNA there and at 23andme and gedmatch and living dna etc.. I'm trying to cover all bases and it's annoying I can't see more than 3 shared matches. My highest ever match is at Ancestry but I can only see 3 of the apparent 10 shared matches we have.

Taking out an Ancestry subscription £89.99 for Worldwide for a year is hardly spending hundreds.

Blitz using the subscription and with the year you should have all the information that is usable to you.

I’ve linked to only three DNA matches on My Heritage, one on ftDNA and 120 on Ancestry, and 113 Ancestry DNA matches linked into my Wife’s tree yet zero linked via My Heritage so Ancestry works for us.

There's nothing to 'Blitz', I have so few meaningful matches I'd be finished within 10 minutes

No but all I want to do is check all the shared matches of any new significant DNA matches and those kind of matches happen very infrequently - I think I've only had one in the 9 years since my first test results so I'd be wasting a lot of money

I can see your problem with only having low cM matches.

Alas there is no way to magic up DNA matches given the takeup levels in countries on the Continent.

Good luck in your quest.

This link tells you what you get on AncestryDNA - https://support.ancestry.com.au/s/article/AncestryDNA-and-Memberships

Basically you will not see more than three matches unless you have a main site sub or AncestryDNA Plus sub. Mind you, I believe the Plus option has not yet been rolled out to everyone.

If you want to see your matches shared matches then you have to have main site sub AND ProTools sub.

My intention is to at some point take up another annual main site sub at a reduced price if I can because I still need to access records and trees. I would then add a one month ProTools sub once maybe twice a year.

Christine.

I am also annoyed that Ancestry have limited the matches to a measly three as well, when it used to be unlimited. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I agree with Biggles that My Heritage is quite good for Eastern European heritage. I have found Ancestry pretty useless in this area tbh.

I have 2 kits on My Heritage. One is an Ancestry transfer from this time last year, taking advantage of their free tools forever offer. This was well worth doing although it has not generated a huge number of helpful matches . ( I do also wonder about my having a match with Gideon Japhet, the father of the founder of MH!)

Earlier this year in a moment of weakness and out of curiosity I decided to take My Heritage's own test. ( It seems to be permanently on offer). Without a sub I only have access to one shared match per match and so rarely bother to look at that kit's matches.

There are different subscriptions on Ancestry varying from rolling monthly renewals that can be cancelled to annual options . The cheapest rolling monthly option is the basic UK records set at £10.99. I can't work due to health reasons and have a very limited income, an annual sub would take around 3% of my annual income so the odd month here and there is my preferred option.  I have my results on other sites too and in the case of MH have about the same quantity as I do on Ancestry but only two on MH are above 50cM, it's always Ancestry where my viable matches appear so I  feel it's worth a month here and there for me in my circumstances.

If you are only interested in DNA matches, the cheapest thing seems to be an AncestryDNA Plus membership. Ancestry hides the cost somewhat, but it used to be $USA30 (about 25 pounds) for six months.
