Title: Matthew Hornsby and family in 1861?
Post by: OutInTheCold on Wednesday 02 October 24 16:51 BST (UK)
Just seems odd that there is no trace of any member of the faimily in the 1861 Census.

Matthew - b. Alston, Cumberland 1830 - d. South Shield district 1877
Margaret - b. Gateshead, Northumberland 28 Mar 1831
Isabella - b. Felling, Durham 1857
Thomas - b. Felling, Durham 1859
Jane - b. Felling, Durham 1862
Margaret - b. Felling, Durham 1862
Mary Ann - b. Felling, Durham 28 Nov 1864
Joshua - b. Felling, Durham 1867

Do you have copies of the birth certs for Thomas 1859 or Jane 1862. Addresses might be the same to help with 1861. I see in 1867 Matthew's occupation was Millwright.

GRO do £3 digital images for the births available straight away.

Hmmm, they are very well hidden.

The baptisms of some of the children are available on Durham Records Online, but the abode is simply given as Felling.

The address I have is 14 Holly Hill, Felling, Heworth on the 1871 Census.

Holly Hill is only given as the abode on the baptism of Mary Ann in 1865.
For the others it's simply High Felling.
I don't see them at Holly Hill in 1861.

The baptisms of Isabella in 1857, Jane and Margaret in 1862 all took place in St. Alban in Heworth (Windy Nook). I'm guessing the family hasn't been recorded on the 1861 Census.
