Title: printer conundrum
Post by: KN on Wednesday 02 October 24 13:55 BST (UK)
Dear Rootschatters

Have been using my Epson Ecotank for at least two years with just about no hiccups at all.

Then over the last few weeks printing is slow, or delayed, or non-existent.  Using the little screen on the printer, sometimes it tells me that wi-fi is strong or poor, although it's placed only a few feet from the BT router.

All other devices using the same router work fine.  And if I print from my phone it works immediately.

So could the problem be the router?

would be pleased to hear your opinions.

Can you temporarily plug an ethernet cable directly from the router to the printer? That will tell you if it is a wifi issue or not.

I had a similar problem too a while ago, I could print from my phone just fine, but from my laptop - no.
It was after an update. I guess for some reason after that it wasn't connecting to the router when everything else was. I disconnected the laptop from the internet, restarted it and logged into the router after I had switched off and on the router again. This worked and it went mad printing everything out when it did connect ! I guess for some reason it wasn't connecting to the router when everything else was.

It could be that your printer needs a software update too, that's another issue I had.

Using an Epson printer, the printer does check frequently for software updates (usually on switch on prior to starting to print).
Notifications of updates come up highlighted on the  task bar at the botton of the screen.

Thankyou very much Haliared and Calverley Lad, for your comments and suggestions - I have indeed linked printer and pc with a cable now, trying to get it to work via wi-fi was just too time consuming and irritating!  Will not be investigating any further.   ::)
