I am trying to work out how the Goodwin Family of Derryvoure are related to the Goodwin family from Gubb.
I have two trees but as yet not managed to find the link.
On the Derryvoure tree.
I have the birth and death of Maurice Goodwin 1920 -1995 son of John 1882 -1980 and great grandson of John Goodwin Boatman at Crum. I have worked the family backwards to Peter Goodwin born abt 1809 and his wife Margaret Fitzpatrick 1818-1901
I found a newspaper cutting about the death of Maurice in 1995 part of it reads
The closest living relative of the deceased is a Pat Goodwin of Gubb.
I think this refers to Patrick Goodwin 1928- 2012 in my Godwin's of Gubb tree
Patrick was the son of John Goodwin 1878 -1946 and Mary McGovern -1979
and John was the son of Patrick Goodwin 1838-1915 and Bridget Hicks 1842- 1917
I believe Patrick father was a Thomas Goodwin and his Mother was Mary but have not yet confirmed this.
I am looking for any help on tying the trees together or confirmation of Thomas and Mary being parent to Patrick. Thank you.

If you can't find the link between the two families and don't have DNA matches then it could be that they are not closely related if at all.
For years I puzzled over a newspaper obituary which went into great detail about the funeral of our deceased relative- place, mourners & their relationship, wreaths, etc. With an already extensive family tree it was easy to identify each mourner and confirm their relationship- except for one named individual. This person (named Robert) even had his residence listed. The problem was not being unable to identify him but to figure out how Robert was or even could be related. Now, the deceased had moved with his family to their nearest town when young. Robert also lived there but he and his family were also easy to trace. Newspaper snippets were very helpful and through them I was able to establish that Robert was not related in any way. Seems the reporter was able to identify him at the funeral, knew both men were business men with links to the same town and called then cousins!

Hi,
Thats Derryvore (no "u") ;)
I'm a Goodwin of Derryvore and have full history on both Derryvore and Gubb families. And for a third in nearby Kevenagh too!
Despite being so geographically close, I have yet to find any family evidence that these families are connected. But I remain confident they are for various reasons.

Hi Michael
I find it very interesting that you also think there is a connection between the two families, it was the newspaper cutting that started me looking at the Goodwins that the family’s are connected.
