Hello I am looking for any information on Janet Shearer born 1859. She is the daughter of Duncan Shearer and Ann Drysdale. I found that Duncan was killed in an accident in 1860 leaving Ann and baby Janet. I found them in the 1861 census and then nothing. Any info would be so helpful.
Cheers.

Ann was 21 in 1861 - have you looked for a remarriage? Duncan was 35 when he died so quite a bit older.
Where do Ann & Janet fit into your FH?
-
Duncan Shearer is the son of James Shearer. James is the son of John Shearer and Cathrine Drummond. The connection to me is on the Drummond side. I found Annie Drysdale Shearer died in 1871 and buried in Perthshire but I cannot find her death on Scotland's people putting and changing her names about.
Cheers.

Are you sure that Annie Drysdale or Shearer is actually buried there (where exactly?) in Perthshire and not just mentioned on a gravestone after dying somewhere else? Who else is in the same grave/commemorated on the same stone?

Lots of newspaper reports about his death. He apparently walked across a line at Craigie Bridge, just south of Perth, to inspect some timber belonging to him, and was hit by a locomotive and killed.

So it turns out that Yes Ann Drysdale shearer {Duncans wife} did remarry but in Lancashire not Scotland. She married Archibald Robertson. Ann died and Janet her daughter was brought up with Archibald {who then went on to marry twice more}. Unfortunately, Janet Shearer Robertson died in 1896 in Lancashire. Ann and Archibald had no children.
Thanks again everyone.

A slight twist to Janet Shearer Robertson. I found her death notice and it said dearly loved wife of Archibald Robertson. Wife that can't be right. I searched for a marriage and still I can't find anything, so I ordered her death certificate which arrived last night. Sure, enough it states she was wife of Archibald Robertson. Did they actually marry? He went on to marry Dianah Mackay and had one son. Interesting.
-
When he married Dinah - what was his marital status on the marriage cert
-
I will have a look and get back to you.
-
He married Dinah in 1875 in Lancashire. Status was Widower. But then he would be as Annie Drysdale his first wife had died earlier and who was Janets mother.
-
After finding this census record with two Archibald Robertson's living next door to each other, I think that the first on the record is the correct one. What do you all think. But where is the marriage for him and Janet Shearer.

There is this marriage you might want to look at

I would say this is his adopted daughter Janet Shearer Robertson that married just by coincidence an Archibald Robertson .
The 1891 census lists them next door to the father Archibald Robertson his occupation
Customs Officer as stated in other census records
Janet Shearer Robertson husband is an insurance agent on the 1901 census he is listed as widower ( insurance agent )
Getting a copy of the marriage 1887 would be the best thing to do to see what it says
