Hi there, I have a relative from France named Pierre Martin born in Durtal, Maine-et-Loire in 1699. Married Périnne rigaud (rigeault) born approximately 1699 in Daumeray, Maine-et-Loire.
I am trying to trace the Martin name down as far as I can, but all I have for Pierre's parents are: father is Martin Martin and mother is Jeanne Dobert.
My ancestry tree gave hints that Martin Martin's father may also be named Martin Martin (1645-1705) and spouse Renée Hodée. I cannot validate if this is true or not.
I'm not having much luck in finding records this far back for France, and the Maine-et-Loire archives are not loading for me.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for finding this - I am at a roadblock in finding info for Martin Martin to indicate who his parents were. It seems there may be two possible Martin Martin's that both married Jeanne's which makes it a little harder to determine
-
Can you give more infos about the possible 2 marriages?

"So :
- Pierre Martin and Perrine Rigaud married on 7 November 1724 in Saint-Martin, in the parish of Daumeray, here is the source : Archives départementales du Maine-et-Loire, Archives de Daumeray, Registre BMS de 1723 à 1735, pages 30 and 31 : [https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ad49/visualiseur/registre.html?id=490007422](https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ad49/visualiseur/registre.html?id=490007422) and as you cannot access the link, here is : [https://imgur.com/a/5SOtUuY](https://imgur.com/a/5SOtUuY)
- Pierre Martin was born on 18 March 1699 in Gouis, Saint-Gervais et Saint-Protais in the parish of Durtal. Source : Archives départementales du Maine-et-Loire, Archives de Durtal, Registre BMS de 1695 à 1704, page 57 : [https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ad49/visualiseur/registre.html?id=490007480](https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ad49/visualiseur/registre.html?id=490007480) and as you cannot access it directly, you can download it from the link here : [https://imgur.com/a/BcR03Rn](https://imgur.com/a/BcR03Rn)
- Pierre Martin is the son of Martin Martin and Jeanne Aubert.
- There is a Martin Martin who died on 10 December 1704 in Savennières indeed : Archives départementales du Maine-et-Loire, Archives de Savennières, Registre BMS de 1700 à 1720, page 91: [https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ark:/71821/52e94a36a1268e0d02a544c2e1e7c082](https://recherche-archives.maine-et-loire.fr/v2/ark:/71821/52e94a36a1268e0d02a544c2e1e7c082) which you can download from here : [https://imgur.com/a/APUHXw7](https://imgur.com/a/APUHXw7)
However, I'm not sure he is the right Martin Martin, and I would not be surprise if there were two of them. The Martin Martin just above was married to Jeanne Menard, while the father of Pierre was married to Jeanne Aubert. I don't think these two women are the same person. The Martin Martin who married Jeanne Ménard on 8 November 1701 is not mentionned as being a widow from Jeanne Daubert, and there are no indications, among the witnesses of any family members of Martin Martin being linked to Jeanne Aubert.
If Martin Martin is one, and one only, person, then its parents would be Pierre Martin and Catherine Leclerc."
This was research done by someone else in France who has access to the archives that I can't view

I see no other brith for the couple Martin / Aubert or Dobert , neither before of after 1699.
They may have settled nearby.
Durtal has many registers missing :
-
The death of 1704 in Savenieres does not seem to be the right one .
It is said that this Martin Martin was buried in presence of his father Pierre and his son Pierre ( given that only the male adults were mentioned in a death certificate in those days , the son Pierre is not your Pierre since he was born in 1699).
Moreover In 1724 the parents of Pierre are said to be " consentants et présents", that is to say alive.
-
Would it seem likely then that Martin Martin's parents could be Pierre Martin and Catherine Leclerc? I guess it would also be helpful to know where they came from, but not sure how to get that info. I really appreciate your help!!

martin/menard 's marriage in Savenieres slide 35 and 36
The father Pierre Martin had a brother called François and another son called Pierre , which matches with the death of 1704 in Savennieres. I already suggested that this Martin Martin was not your ancestor.
The marriage certificate of Pierre Martin and Perrine Rigault says that his parents were Martin Martin
and Jeanne Dobert both present at the ceremony in 1724. I think that you should try to find more about this thread .

"décédé au porage" = died in Le Porage
I think this one is more likely yours, 60 years'old or so in 1743 (he could be 50 as well as 70 ish)
