Hi Charles Dixon or Dickson was ancestor who settled at Middleburn near Eskdalemuir over in Dumfriesshire. He married Joan Little at Canonbie in 1806. Kirk Session at Canonbie shows they were rebuked for their behaviour .
However in examining Charles death most censuses state he was born at Eskdalemuir . However as I have discovered another man born around the same time at Eskdalemuir 1780/1 it has been proven that Scotlands People entry at Eskdalemuir is not him but another Charles . A Memorial Inscription has him dead and buried circa 1863 at Middleburn near Eskdalemuir one death entry for Eskdalemuir for a Charles Dixon .
Also interesting is Charles marriage it states Charles Dixon of Ettrick ie Selkirkshire . Ettrick is at the most 15 miles over the county line into the Scottish Borders from Eskdalemuir but not impossible that he worked on a farm or despite what the censuses say was possibly both there but no entry there for a birth . Any help appreciated Chris

George or Charles? You refer to him by both names so you need to clarify
Can't see an 1863 death in either Dumfries or Selkirk under George or Charles Dixon or Dickson for somebody old enough to have married in 1805
