Hi
I believe there is a microform version of a Births, deaths and marriages indexes New Zealand Registrar-General's Office, but being in Australia I have never seen it let alone accessed it. Has anyone used it? Or has ready access?
Many thanks

The micofiche indexes were copies of the old hand written indexes made by the Registrar General's office, and do not bear any resemblance to the current indexing system available on the NZ BDM website. About the only thing they are good for now is from the Reg No you can look up in the District Keys to see where the birth or death was registered, something you can't do with the current system.
Some local libraries in NZ will still have them but they are probably not used very much any more.
They were on Ancestry as well.
Current NZ BDM website.

Thanks for the reply Ian and your insights, the record I found for one suggests this coverage;
Births 1840-1990 -- Marriages 1840-1990 -- Deaths 1848-1990-- War Deaths 1914-1918
Is this accurate or not.
Much thanks

Hi Stuart
Here is a link to the holding in the Western Australia State Library

If you detail more of the specifics of your enquiry, perhaps others can help further.
Kind regards

Thanks Twiggy....it's a last resort.....I live just that bit too far away ;D
Appreciate your suggestion!

Yes Stuart those are the dates covered.

Edited to add.
They do not contain a lot of information, just the name and the registration number, no dates, locations or anything else. The marriages do not even have the name of the spouse, you have to go through them until you find the matching number.

It is possible to request a 'Look up' on the NZ boards, if you need it: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=508522.0
