Title: Newspaper articles
Post by: specialspud on Saturday 24 August 24 11:16 BST (UK)
Good morning. I was wondering whether someone could check out a story for me regarding one of my ancestors Mary Gillard, maiden name Upton. She born 1780 woodgreen tottenham. She lived to the long age of 108. According to a newspaper article. It is believed she was one of 4 children 2 of those brothers drowned off newfoundland? Not sure whether that is in Yeovil. I don't have a date but I would love to try and find out more around this story if possible. Can anyone lend a hand?

Was Gillard her maiden name or her married name?

If you are looking for info about her male siblings you need to give her maiden name

I would suggest that you look at the British newspaper archive for references to her, she is mentioned because of her age.  I can see references to when she turned 100 also 107 and they are easily found

I think you can do a free search and get up to 3 copies.  It also available as part of the subscription to FindMyPast

Here she is in 1861 on familysearch website.  You can view these transcript just by registering

That link only lists her but she also has her daughter Jane Garland, son in law Thomas Garland and grandaughter Mary Jane Gillard with her
