Hi,
Some ancestors of mine give their address on the 1911 census as "Freeholders' Homes, Crook".
I didn't know what this was and struggled to find out. My sister found some relevant information relating to a development in Darlington https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/library/browse/issue.xhtml?recordId=1116958&recordType=GreyLitSeries
but I wondered if anyone could shed any more light on the Crook angle? The three inhabitants of the property were siblings in their twenties. I undertsand she scheme was designed to extend home ownership to wider group but still...?
Thanks in advance for any replies...RootsChat experts have helped me many times.

The first newspaper hit that I found was from 1862 (the death of an infant). This one, quite a bit later is a little more informative:
11/5/1899 Northern Echo

Here is a side-by-side map view showing where they were:

An address search at FindMyPast finds hits for 1871, 1911 (listed as Freeholders Homes, High Hope Street), and 1921.
