FindMyPast have record card which links service number with enlistment date mentioned.

Have you looked for his service records?
But, please bear in mind that nearly 70% of these records were lost in a fire in WW2.
Medal Index Card - if he served abroad.
-
A search for a service record on both Ancestry and Find My Past has failed to find anything. Unless he continued to serve after WW1, this would mean that his record was destroyed during the WW2 bombing of London.
-
Thank you I wondered sadly that was the reason ,

The only bit I can add is that he was a Territorial hence the 2 numbers for him.
In 1917 the TF were re-organised & issued with 6 digit numbers.
These were issued in batches & 940599 is in the batch issued to 283 & 293 Brigades
RFA.
283 (Howitzer) Bde. was 56th. Div. Artillery & 293 (Howitzer) Bde. was 58th. Div. Artillery.
The batch number starts at 940001 up to 945000.
His number is right at the start but I can't say how they were allocated to each Bde.
ie. if 283 had the first half of the batch.
He was in 283 Bde. as 293 didn't go overseas until 1917.
283 Bde. went overseas Oct. 1915 & your man went overseas in Dec. 1915.

Might he be your Ernest?

Looks like we've got a mix of Ernest Owens.
The poster says he "attested" 14/12/15 which wasn't his attestation date
it was the date he went overseas according to the first Ernest Owen's
MIC.
Also they said he had middle name Wilfred.
The 2nd. Ernest looks a better fit.

Good find.
LLT says:
XXX1 Bde.
This brigade was at Sheffield when war was declared and at that time comprised numbers 131, 132 and 133 Batteries RFA.
The batteries left and were placed under orders of 27th Division
