I have tried unsuccessfuly to find the land tax records for Stratton Strawless online and also at familysearch.org (online or at the history centers). [Previously I have been able to access land tax records for Somerset parishes at my local history center.]
I would appreciate comments about the choices I have for viewing Norfolk land tax records for roughly the period of 1766-1800.
Many thanks.

TNA at Kew has a 1798 Land Tax Assessment for Stratton Strawless, but unfortunately it isn't online.

Below is a helpful overview of what Land Tax Assessments for Norfolk the NRO have.
Send them an email - hopefully they can assist you.

Thank you very much, Ashtone.
Would it be fair to say that the same people showing in the land tax for a parish for a particular year would also appear in a poor law rate list for the same parish and year?

Sorry, I have no clue. I'm sure someone will be along to provide an answer for you.
Are you searching for anyone or property in particular?

The surname of interest in Stratton Strawless is Harbord.

Thanks again Ashtone.
I'm actually well along with my Harbord research and have the Will you mentioned. Now I am just tying up some loose ends and wondered if the land tax records might elucidate anything about the descendants of William Harbord, who made the Will in 1739 (the 1744 record was when the Will was proved).
-
I also have Harbord/Herbert ancestors from Norwich but a possible connection to the Stratton Stawless area. The furthest I have got back is a William Harbord born c1670.
I was recently researching a likely distant relative of mine called Benjamin Harbord born 1775 in Coltishall and died Gt Yarmouth in 1856, who was the grandson of the William Harbord who died in 1739 in Stratton Strawless.
-
I believe your Benjamin Harbord was a grandson of the William Harbord (who made his last Will in Stratton Strawless in 1739 (the Will was proved in 1744)) via William's first wife Martha, and their son John. The Will refers to John and the then living children of William by both Martha and a second wife named Elizabeth. The Harbord's I am following at this time are from William and Elizabeth.
I have tried to send you a PM.

Thank you jonw65.
Yes, I have the Hevingham Manor Court records you mentioned. They are marvelous and provided a research breakthrough for me, being the first records I had seen connecting William and Elizabeth Harbord of Stratton Strawless to the great grandson William Harbord (1779 Rotherhithe, Surrey-1853 Liverpool). Several pedigrees show this connection, without proof.

Hi
Ah, well done. Those manorial records are indeed amazing.
FamilySearch does have
Land tax returns for the hundred of South Erpingham, 1767-1832, over three microfilms
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/435260
However the reality may be that there is almost nothing before 1800 :(
For Stratton Strawless land tax in 1800 see here
https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/435260
For more you have to wade through the films

Thanks jonw65. Never thought of searching for South Erpington Hundred. In Somerset, I am used to searching for a parish and finding the land tax records. I appreciate your tip. Too bad, South Erpington does not have much of anything prior to 1800.

Thanks I received the PM. The 1744 will (WH died in 1739) is quite good. Not the same man who was my William Harbord but my one was wed to Sarah (unknown maiden surname) and had a son called Benjamin in 1703 in Norwich and likely a son George in 1708 in Aylsham, near Stratton Strawless. As we know the further back I could get the harder it is to find records. It is still good to have got back to someone born about 1670.
