The photograph is said to be William Brophy, my great great grandfather. He was born in Ireland about 1806. He died of tuberculosis in Leeds, Yorkshire in 1862, aged 57. He was a worsted weaver.
I am not at all sure that the photograph is of my ancestor. The costume does not look right to me, neither Irish or English. The man in the photo could be older than my relative was at death. The source of the photo is a possible distant relative in Australia.
So what do you think? Can you estimate the date of the photograph and comment on the subjects' dress and age. Many thanks for your help with this.

Not an expert but does not look correct to me:
-
Most likely taken between 1860 and 1880 so no...
-
Not taken 1860's as men didn't dress like this at the time.
The earliest it can be is 1870's.

Many thanks for your replies. It has confirmed my doubts.
