Hi, I need some help figuring this out . My ancestors marriage record from Fraserburgh says he is John Bannerman of Hatton , his wife from Rathen . I thought Hatton was in Fraserburgh , but it is not this is very confusing when trying to pinpoint someones home , or where exactly they are from . why would they travel huge distances

They went where the work was. You don't give any timescale or any details to enable identification of John so is he on any census entry? What birthplace does he give & where was he living

If I have the right Hatton, it is about 20 miles from Fraserburgh. This is not such a great distance.

Sorry Carole , John Bannerman married 1792 in Fraserburgh . He died before 1841 .

The Hatton I found was closer to Peterhead . Farther than 20 miles . But Google search doesn’t give that option . Which is why I was confused .

That is the place I found, according to Google maps, about 22 miles. Do you know what work he did, could he have been a seafarer/fisherman?
