Every week I think, is it really week ending whatever, time is passing by very quickly.
Hope everyone had a good weekend, started off a nice morning but it is early, hoping it won't be to hot today, steady 70 -75 suits me.
Well much to my amazement our bazaar at the moment seems to have made over £750, don't know how to be honest but every little helps, got 3 months to prepare for the next one but rumour has it the person who seems to be the leader of the fund raising committee is thinking of stepping down, not good news, but it will carry on, we have to.
Hope everyone is fit and well, keep cool.

Good morning everyone, lovely morning but that means a hot afternoon!
Ironing to do so best do it in a few moments rather than this afternoon.
Well finally got all the maps, books etc I lent away and got a suitcase out too which I will need when we go down to Suffolk.—— Then that has to be put back when we return !
Found tiny newly hatched green caterpillars devouring my Captain Sir Tom Rose, only babies so I put them on some weeds/ wild flowers in the side lane.
No idea what for tea, but just me so I do have some veggie options I want to try.
When sun moves round to the back I can tidy the front bedroom a bit but have to be careful because of all my son’s work ,computers ,etc .
I like to do a good clean before I go on holiday.
Bought some Microfibre cloths at weekend, I like Lancashire 100% dishcloths but the last I bought were mixed fibres so not really genuine Lancashire
ones .
They are like a fine knitted fabric, stitched in red round the edges.
I tried a microfibre one yesterday and am really impressed ,they really do wipe things dry ,like the splashes round the sink after washing up.
Well must get on although I only slept for a couple of hours last night so must resist an afternoon nap or I will be awake again tonight.
I am fed up with the Olympics ,they have pretty well taken over the TV.programmes.
Why not a dedicated Sports Channel ?

I was told I missed equestrian yesterday, didn't realise it was on , I am not much of a sports watcher on TV unless we are in the finals but I do like equestrian.
It is very hot here, we have those wretched paving slabs, brick size in our front garden, wish I had never had them, I have deweeded and tidied half this morning in my front garden in the shade, if is really hard work, won't get a chance to do the other half till later in the week I don't think, will look nice when they are done but in retrospect they were not a good idea.
Pleased you got your maps back Viktoria.
I don't sleep very well at the best of times but much worse when the nights are hot, still most likely be moaning if it is cold and wet, never satisfied but I would be with a steady 70 degrees.
Lunch time looming so I had better jump to it.

Yesterday was hot, today is forecast to be hotter, though we in the south-west won't be quite as hot as the south-east, they say. I've taken the opportunity of washing my pillows - man made fibres, as my daughter is allergic to feathers and I am still using some of the pillows I bought when she lived at home. (I read somewhere that you should buy new pillows every two years!) I'd really like to wash the duvet in our spare bedroom, but that would involve a visit to a launderette, and there isn't one nearby. Warm sunny weather always makes me look around the house to find things to wash. When my grandson was younger he was making me a birthday card and didn't know what to draw. His mother said, "Think of something that reminds you of Grannie." The result? A lovely picture of a washing line full of laundry items!
Take care of yourselves, everyone, and drink lots of water in this hot weather. My GP recommends at least 2 litres. I'm trying, but find this quite hard. Holidaymakers are apparently bringing Covid to our area, so we are being advised to do a lot of hand washing and keep at a distance from others.

The Diary has been vey quiet today, I expect you are all flagging in the heat. I thought that for those of you, like me, being of a certain age, the following might raise a smile.
THE SUNDAY TEA DANCE.
It’s the Sunday tea dance and they’ll all be here today,
Aches and pains forgotten, dance the afternoon away.
Foxtrots, quicksteps, waltzes, some are slow but some are still nifty,
With memories as to how it was way back in 1950.
Norman’s in the toilet and he’s struggling to pee,
He’s got trouble with his prostate, and he’ll likely miss the tea.
Eddy’s got a new love that he met on Thornton Heath.
She does a lovely tango, but she hasn’t any teeth.
His latest fancy footwork nearly broke his partner’s neck,
She mistook his outside swivel for a travelling contra check.
Ida’s had her hair done and she’s ready for a saunter,
She had a vindaloo last night and it’s coming back to haunt her.
Florry’s mini-skirt’s revealing when she’s spinning in the jive,
She really shouldn’t wear a thong, approaching 85.
They’ve had their tea and cake and chat and had a little laugh,
And gamely rise with creaking knees to face the second half.
Norman’s made it back in time for rumba number one,
His cucaracha’s very neat, but he’s left his flies undone.
Vera’s fallen over in a massive crimplene heap,
Bert’s got indigestion and Mable’s fast asleep.
It’s the last waltz time and up they get for Humperdink’s old tune,
And then “Goodbye, good luck, take care, God willing, see you soon “.

Love it! ;)

Ditto, very funny..
Not had a good today appt with my husband AM, lunch time I noticed my freezer warning light was on, shutting it has been a bit temperament, sometimes kick it hard in soft shoes, moaned for a long time it ought to be replaced , usual excuse, not got round to it, I checked the contents, managed to save some steak, casserole this evening on a hot day, better than wasting it, also saved soft fruits for sweet tonight, few things suspect but strange thing is only a couple of things completely defrosted, ice cream soft and fluffy, fortunately I didn't have a packed fridge so not enough to claim for, as far as I can remember I last went the fridge last evening, so why wasn't everything defrosted??, so, Thursday I am off to buy a new freezer.
Then dentist, my dentist retired so I has to find a new one, could only get a private one near home, have had several fittings for a new denture, last one sent back to the lab as it didn't fit at all, new one arrived today, looks as if it has been altered and not a completely new one, that doesn't fit either, so after a discussion I decided to forgo a new denture and continue as I have done for a year, " I will arrange a refund" the dentist said, I said " you can arrange a refund if you like but I haven't paid for this denture yet", roll on tomorrow

Another step back to something like normality today. I went to Band practice this morning for the first time since Jane was talen ill back at the end of September.
Although I have still not got my driving licence back one of the Band members lives just three miles away from where I live and provided the necessary transport this morning.
We are only a small group and very seldom perform publicly , but the companionship is great. Only seven players this morning but we made a cheerful sound for 90 minutes.
I must admit I was feeling a little apprehensive about re-starting, but all turned out well in the end. It gave me the boost which I needed. rj
-
Sorry to hear of your misfortune LM. Teeth are a problem when coming, then when you've got them and even when they're gone. I know from experience what a problem they an be.
What a day to have freezer problems. When mine packed up years ago, I was lucky that a neighbour was able to store some food, the rest I wrapped up in layers of newspaper, put it in the fridge which I turned to its coldest. It actually stay frozen for two days until the new freezer was delivered. The fridge was so col that the milk froze in the bottles and stood up like candles.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow.
-
RJ
Well done for your efforts to cope with your situation
:)
-
Thanks for the interesting news folks and the poem ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Hope the freezer problems are quickly resolved .
Drs.today ,a follow up after the all clear re screening etc when all was OK,
but Dr. wants to eliminate any other possible causes for the fluid in my upper arms .
He has arranged XRays .
I am being looked after very well.
Just entering my front gate when I got home, a lady with a little boy came out of the side lane .She said they had been looking , over the fence , for my fish ,but could not see them .
I explained they would be under a flat stone I balance oh two cubes of stone
where it is still cool water when the sun gets very hot ..
Someone had put a little yellow plastic duckling in the water .
Then the little boy - 4 - said he needed the toilet so I invited them in as they had a way to go to get home .
He wanted the duckling so I gave it to him ,but washed it as pond water certainly is not clean !
He starts school in September.Bobby.
Son back from his trip to Head Office.
All the stuff I had to put back in the big cupboard is away ! phew!
A lovely day ,hope it keeps up.
Saw another creamy white butterfly today, fluttering about in my little herb patch where the mint is now in flower.
It seemed to flutter in one spot and I realised it was caught in a strand of gossamer thread, so I released it BUT there was a big spider grasping it which I flicked away but sadly the butterfly was dead ,I imagine the spider
had bitten it as in that short time it’s abdomen was almost all gone .
Aaaaaaw.
Well bed calls , hope all are O.K, and those who have not posted for a while join us in our chats again which are very pleasant .
Goodnight everyone .
Viktoria.

Gillg, 2 litres is 125ml or 5 oz once an hour assuming a 16 hour day. If you try and have a few mouthfuls every half hour, that might help.
Anyway, back to my tree.

JessiT
I do try to sip throughout the day and always have a glass of water nearby with a slice of lemon or a few mint leaves in it to make it more palatable. I have a 2 litre filter jug which I keep filled up and try to empty that each day. Drinking water before a meal seems to make me less hungry, so that helps with my weight reducing diet, too. I've lost nearly 2 stone since receiving a letter from my GP surgery warning me of the perils of being overweight, a letter which was sent out to quite a few of us oldies. This was mainly a warning about Type 2 diabetes, which I don't have. I don't suppose I shall ever reach my old weight level of 9 stone as in my 20s, but I would be scrawny if I did, since I am tall.
Good luck with your tree JessiT. There is always someone who will help you on this site.
-
I find it very difficult to lose any weight, I have warned my daughter as I think I am following my grandmother and my mother weightwise , my husband is 9st 7lbs, eats far more than I do but I just can't lose any, not prepared at my age to go on a strict died, I just do the best I can.
I suffer badly from cramp so I am trying to drink water , you know what the effects of that is.
Well done Jeff, now you have started to go back it might motivate you to do more and enjoy the company
I have been cleaning up more of my patio bricks, can't possibly do it in one go, far to hot in the front, got one more to do and I so will leave it till Thursday, it is hot although in the back garden there is a breeze, enough to twirl the washing round the whirly line
Keep cool

Very hot here today, so I am doing jobs inside the house and trying to keep cool. Cold poached salmon with home grown salad and new potatoes for dinner tonight. My Sunday Observer had a lovely supplement with some interesting salad recipes, so I will be following some of them.
I washed 4 pillows yesterday and another 4 today and they have plumped up beautifully. 2 at a time in the washing machine, which worked well. This weather makes me look around for stuff to wash.
-
I have never washed pillows successfully in the washing machine, last one rolled into a ball so I threw it away, it wasn't a cheep one either.
I don't like the summer months, my neighbours seem to think they can pollute the air with their load music in the garden, drives me mad, sometimes I wish I lived in the middle of a field, I dread the father retiring which could be fairly soon
Not quite so hot today, not been out, got a sniffy cold so stayed in.
Take care
LM

Another very warm day today, so looking around for things to wash and am eyeing bedroom curtains, but perhaps not, as heavy rain is forecast later in the day.
Observer recipe today for Cucumber, date and pistachio salad. Also involves red onion, chives and lemon. Sounds very simple. The recipe calls for Medjool dates, which are gorgeous, but mighty expensive - £5 a pack as opposed to £1.20 for ordinary dates. If it's still hot tomorrow I might try burrata and nectarine salad with red chillies, basil and balsamic vinegar. Mmmm!
Weekly shop done and put away, recycling bins out, so will put my feet up with a library book this afternoon. ;D
-
Another gorgeous day today ,eldest son taking me to Solicitors to amend my will, now that my second son is divorced ,to protect him from his ex wife’s greed. It would be too painful for him to be with me.
Easiest is to do the same for all three children, even though the other two spouses are no trouble at all.
Later today, probably this evening I can put the plants in the bigger pots .
The soil was very cold so it is about the same temperature as that in which they are growing.
Dr’s this afternoon so a quick tea ,possibly Pizza and salad.
Then it is weekend again ,my how time is rushing by.
I have a long list of dates and times for hospital appointments ,on 9 th an XRay to eliminate anything the scans etc done last week do not pick up.
I am in size 8 clothing now, so many nice clothes too big ,some classic dateless ones but I could have a friend in some with me ,we would have to go everywhere together!
Well must sort out why my alarm went off when all was locked and secure, someone from the installers coming later today ,I have a service contract with them.
A local firm m ery friendly and obliging.
Cheerio, Viktoria,

The last few really hot days got me through a whole lot of household washing and drying - lovely. It's too hot for me, though. Got eye test and some new glasses last week, organised periodic blood test for me next week, and prescription renewal, and got boiler service done ... can't get hold of local garage tried ringing again today to see if the repair to my car's electrics is getting anywhere - seems they can't source the part needed - so down to one car on the road to share between us! Nuisance. Busy week, though.
TY

So far I haven't had a good week, my husband had a hospital appt Monday, he has ongoing appts but nothing else serious, then the freezer door miraculously didn't shut properly, some food defrosted, so I made the decision to but a new under counter fridge and freezer.
My car MOT 'd this morning , failed due to a local main dealer causing an oil leak when they put in new springs or whatever they were in January, unfortunately my husband chose not to have the MOT at the main dealer but to a local garage so now we have to take my car into the main dealer to get it sorted, whatever it is on Monday, i hope they don't charge us, we will be carless, ok for me but my husband can't walk far, but no one hurt, injured or or ill so we have to count our blessings, just makes me a bit fed up, roll on Monday.
Not quite so hot today, a bit of a breeze but like TY I have taken advantage of the good weather.
Take care
LM

Things often don’t come alone do they L.M.
I can guarantee if Inset a date for something like visiting my daughter - everything goes wrong, prescription mix ups or not delivered ,something in the house is nit working, health appt I have waited for arrive !
Hope it all gets sorted for you.
Well —— the alarm, chap from the company came promptly yesterday .
:-[
A spider’s thread hanging from the ceiling in a very dark corner where the alarm sensor is mounted ,he said it was very common ,they are so sensitive .
Probably the spider had gone up,or down.
Now the smoke alarm is getting over sensitive and won’t stop even when I touch the off button with a broom handle. Ceiling mounted and so needs ladders but in the middle if cooking the. Broom handle is quicker but yesterday it would not stop at all so dismounted now.
It is a wired in one so maybe house insurance will cough up if not sin says a simple battery one will be perfectly O.K but I won’t climb up to do that!
Well off to shops and make my get away before helpful son comes in from next door ,I can’t have my little mooch etc when he is with me .
Hope all have a pleasant weekend .
Cheerio.Viktoria.

Contact your local Fire Brigade Viktoria, they will fit smoke alarms in all the appropriate places with batteries that last 10 years. It is a free service for “youngsters “ of our age.

Sons (and daughters, for that matter) are a wonderful help, but they do whip through things as quickly as they can because of their other commitments, so I do understand that you like to have your mooch around the shops without their help. My husband is just as bad - much as I appreciate his sharing of the supermarket shopping, I know that it is something that he hates doing, and his main objective is to get out of the shop as quickly as he can. I'm sure I miss some things because of the pressure, but I dare say I was the same when looking after my mother.
Now, don't you dare go up that ladder, will you, Viktoria! Jebber's advice sounds very good to me.
-
Many thanks Jebber, I did not know that.
Trouble is this one was newly fitted by the builders who gutted and renovated the house ,but whilst they did leave the instructions for all other things there is nothing for this one.
So Monday will do some phoning .
Cool fresh start to a now bright breezy day .
Bought an interesting plant and card for my nice neighbours at the side of me
across the lane .
They were both pupils at the schools where I worked .
I got a nice Cache Pot —— posh ceramic plant pot —-too.
Some threading beads for Kyra ,also known as The Suffolk Flasher —— ;D
Now looking for blunt bodkins for her tiny fingers ,at school we used drinking straws but the holes in these beads are just too small by a fraction .
We have a super craft shop, Clark’s ,in Rammy and open on Sundays so I can call after Church.
The beads were very inexpensive ,the better wooden ones are really expensive but more for her tiny hands but we will see.
Very good for hand/ eye co ordination and the fine pincer movements needed to hold pencils crayons etc .
I have a keyboard upstairs stored away ,got it at a car boot sake for my grand daughter ,wasn’t really interested but Flash Harry might be, we can see.
My daughter did very well on the piano.
Taught by our Church organist who lived two minutes away.
Well easy tea tonight , Pepperoni pizza for son ,Margherita for, me,well half of one us enough ,with salad ,maybe potato salad as well.
Cheerio, thanks for the helpful advice ,I appreciate it .
.Viktoria.

We once had a problem with one of our wired in smoke alarms going off, it turned out to be caused by thunderbugs getting into it. OH vacuumed it out and it was fine after that.
Pinetree
-
Are Thunderbugs little black insects ,do they have wings?
The seem very common in areas where cereal crops grow.
I am looking for a special Maths aid, they used to be common in schools.
A square with numbers, 1-12 across the top row and down the left side.
By following the number lines across and then down you can see in a moment the tables , so easy.
I know tables need to be learnt, but they do sink in this way, and are they learnt off by heart by every morning as we had to do ?
I can easily make one ,but a better quality one will be longer lasting.
Flash Harry gets a bit upset ,he does know them but has to say the whole table to get to where he needs to be.
I know them now but struggled a bit like that at his age ,mind you—— they were on the outside of the back cover of our arithmetic exercise books,we were not allowed to look though ::)
I never had a pleasant helpful Maths teacher ,like the logic now but was always anxious about arithmetic un school in school.
Loved Geometry and Algebra but Arithmatic and Logs!
A sunny but fresh morning , not much washing to do ,no full loads unless my son has a “ present “for me——-
Trying to fix a date to visit my daughter which is convenient for her and fits in with son’s work schedule .
I also need some drainage work done before Winter.
Isn’t time flying by !
I must be enjoying myself ::)
Cheerio, Viktoria.
-
That’s them, also known as thrips. Get everywhere, even have a couple stuck in my computer screen.
Is this the sort of thing you are after for times tables?
https://wordunited.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/KS2-MAT017-multiplication-table-1-12.pdf
Could be printed and laminated to make it a bit more durable.
Pinetree
-
Oh that is even better, the ones used at the schools where I worked were just black and white ,super thanks.
I see numbers in colour, because on the school wall in my first school there were sets if cardboard counters set out like the configuration on playing cards and dominoes.
1white
2 green
3 yellow
4 red
5 magenta.etc .
Mind you why they were there was anybodies idea because we got smacked if we looked at them!
For ages I did dots as I counted ,with my chalk on the little dark green what looked like linoleum squares.
It was a revelation many years later how interesting maths could be presented to four year olds .
Scottish Maths was like a comic, funny and so interesting , the reception class especially got on in leaps and bounds ,because it was fun.
.
Thanks for that ,I will get one - might get one for myself too ::)
