Title: Elizabeth Uwens
Post by: nelwild on Saturday 27 July 24 11:27 BST (UK)
Could anyone please help me establish who this lady was?
She married Benjamin Allen at St Nicholas Church,Brighton,on 31st May 1819.
The 1851 census has her place of birth as Barkham,Sussex in 1804.On the 1861,its Barcombe, and on the 1871,its Chailey.
The only potential birth record i can see is Elizth Uwen on 27th Dec 1801 at Harting,to Thomas and Mary.Being unfamiliar with the area,im not sure about that. And i cant find a Thomas/Mary marriage.
Id be very grateful if anyone can help.

Many thanks.

The village of Barcombe is 6 miles from Chailey and 13 miles from Brighton. Harting is 55 miles away.

On each census & also on her death reg - her birthyear is the same  - 1804

If she married in 1819 she would have been 15yrs old - not impossible - but Benjamin was b 1796 per baptismal entry

Thanks for the replies.
I think Harting is unlikely, given the distance.
I think it was legal to marry at 12 back then,so 15 is possible.
Uwens is quite an unusual name.I did wonder if it might be a misspelling of Owens.
