I am looking for a marriage record for Margaret O’Callaghan between 1901-1911 in Cambridge,
Middlesex, Massachusetts the groom’s surname was Callahan. Margaret was on the 1901 census
in Cork, Ireland her parents were Jeremiah O’Callaghan and Julia Crowley. A daughter, Doreen
Margaret Callahan was born on the 28th November, 1911. Margaret’s husband died and she joined
her brother and sisters in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She married her second husband in
1922 I don’t have any date for her arrival in Brisbane.
Margaret’s nephew William O’Brien also left for America in 1911 though there is no confirmation
of his arrival there. His younger brother James immigrated in 1925. The 2 brothers also settled in
Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Kind Regards

I haven’t seen any marriage/birth records on Family Search.
Was Doreen born in US?
How were the O’Briens related - you say they are nephews so is that through a sibling of Margaret’s?
Do you have then in Irish censuses?
With the two surnames being so similar, are you confident that Margaret was married in US?

I meant that to be - was she married at all?

How do you know the marriage took place in Cambridge? If the only connection is a nephew arriving in Cambridge later, she could have married anywhere.
-
I thought Margaret might have married before going to America but a check on Irish Genealogy
was unsuccessful. It did occur to me that Margaret might not have been married. Doreen Margaret Callahan was born in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts. She married Vernon Craighead Davis in Brisbane on the 30th November, 1932 and died on the 16th August, 1971. However there is no record of death for her on the Qld BDM. The cemetery record shows that she was buried on the 18th August. There is a photo of the plaque on Ancestry. A check of electoral rolls has her living in Brisbane I also checked NSW BDM with no results.
William and James were the sons of James O’Brien and Mary O’Callaghan, Margaret’s sister. They
lived in Castleinch, Cork. I have the census records for them in 1901 and 1911. In the 1911 census there is a William O’Brien working on the Twomey family farm. Twomey’s are related to the OCallaghans.

Do you have a birth record for Doreen? I don't see a match for the information you have.
-
Doreen Margaret Callahan was born on the 28th February, 1911 Cambridge, Middlesex,
Massachusetts.

Yes, I saw that above, but did this information come from a birth record or elsewhere? There are Massachusetts birth records online from that era, but I could not find her. Typically, a Massachusetts birth record would have the father’s name and possibly information about where the parents lived, so that would be helpful.
-
No I don’t have a birth certificate for Doreen I obtained that information from Ancestry. I was hoping
to get her death certificate to see if the father’s name was on there. Margaret and Thomas Kurley’s
wedding certificate in 1922 has Margaret listed as a widow. Her death certificate in 1942 has her
1st marriage in America and only the groom’s surname.
-
I don't see anything that matches that birth currently, even on a family tree. Perhaps someone put that information on their tree and later removed it?
Rather than assuming that possible birth meant that Margaret O'Callaghan married someone named Callahan, it could be that Noreen Callahan was the closest match and the person who saw it and added it to their tree due to assuming the name was Americanized or that it was close enough that it was probably right.
Anyway, without a source, I'd say you need to look at what you know about Doreen aside from this possible birth and work back from there.

There are public trees which show Doreen Margaret Callahan.
They show that she married Vernon Craighead Davis.
One has parents Walter and Alice Maude but no records.
2 others have mother Margaret O’Callaghan but no supporting records.
Might there be Australian records showing Margaret and Doreen together?
I don’t have access to US records - just bare minimum but there seems to be a Margaret A Callahan birth and baptism. There is a tree indicating that she is Margaret Alice and parents are shown.
However, I searched for 1911 but I can’t see any date to check but there may be other birth entries around 1911 in the general area.

There's a Margaret Alice Callahan born in Cambridge on 20 Mar. 1911 to Charles Durgin Callahan and Minnie H. Seyter, so that doesn't seem to fit. The only other Callahan born in Cambridge in 1911 was Grace Agnes Callahan born to Daniel Callahan and Ellen O'Connell.

Doreen Margaret is listed on Margaret’s death certificate as the child from the 1st marriage. I also
checked the electoral rolls and Doreen and husband Vernon are living at the same address as
Margaret and Thomas in 1934 and 1936. One of the family funeral notices for my g.grandfather
John O’Callaghan in 1943 mentions Mr T. Kerley (spelt Curley in the paper) and Mrs D. Davis.
Thank you Heywood and Shellyesq for all you help.
