Title: Ryley - millers in Wistatton/Woolaston/Wybunbury/Sandbacj areas 1750-1830
Post by: queenswood 1 on Friday 19 July 24 09:47 BST (UK)
A really long shot but I am trying to trace the baptism of Edward Ryley born c 1768-1770 in the Wistaston/Wybunbury/Sandbach area who became a miller and moved to Market Drayton in the 1820s after raising his family in the Wistaston area. He married Francves Bourne in 1793 Norton in the Moors. I am aware of all his descendants but am trying to work out his ancestors! Have narrowed it down to possibly Buckley Mill/ Wistaston Mill/Sandbach Mill but cannot find a baptism anywhere and am assuming his father was likely to be a miller too.

A really long shot but just asking as someone may have a detail I have missed!
Have looked  at land Tax assessments for the period and am down to possibly 3 options but just asking!

Really grateful for any info!

Good Afternoon.
Let me start by saying I can't find a baptism either and the moment Ancestry is down which is hampering things a bit.
We have two millers in the Ryley family of that generation.
Edward 1770-1838 buried Wybunbury 21.8.1838 of Oakley Mill Belton Market Drayton and
John  1796-8.3.1841  Wistaston of Buckley Mill  s of John and Elizabeth Ryley nee Williams married by licence 26.11.1795. Son John bapt 10.2.1796 Wistaston. John Senior is  a miller.
Joh buried 2.5.1848 of Buckley Mill age 80.

So probably 2 brothers -born 1768 and 1770.

That's were the problem starts
There is a miller Edward Ryley who married Betty  Brotherton by licence at Warmingham 7.2.1758.
Bondsman Joseph Brotherton of Felton Warmington yeoman.Edward a minor who needed the consent of his father also Edward Ryley ,a yeoman . witnesses Samuel Royle yeoman and John Royley of H---ington miller.

Over at Audley St James Edward Ryley a husbandman married Elizabeth Thorley of Bottomley 25.5.1760.

Children of Edward and Betty
John and Elizabeth 1.7.1758 Warmingham of Felton
Hannah 20.6.1767
Jessy 12.7.1768
Charles 4.11.1770

Over at Audley St James
John 8/21.1.1770 and Edward 28.11/26 Dec 1773.

It would be lovely to find a Will for Edward Ryley of Warmingham miller but Ancestry is down and Cheshire Wills don't seem to have one.

I'll do a bit more digging

Warmingham is interesting and one that I had not found. The first of edwards 6 children was baptised at Coppenha;; while the others are baptised at Wistaston. One of the other millers I am looking at is called Edward Ryley- at Sandbach - so Warmingham is sat between sandbach and Copenhall and north of wistaston so will def be looking at the Warmingham possibility too!
Thank you - still hunting!
