Hello,
I'm looking into Jane's father which I believe looking at the image is James Blake however I am a little stumped on his occupation? At first I thought it said Gentleman but the word appears slightly longer the the word gentleman above? It almost looks like gentlewoman??
Help? :)

Yes I believe it does say "Gentlewoman". Probably a mistake by the transcriber.

I agree. Looks as if the person got in a muddle and called Jane’s rank “Gentleman” and her father James “Gentlewoman”!

Haha i'm not loosing my marbles then!
Apparently he was a terrible landlord in the late 1840's and kicked out a lot of people from their homes during the famine... can anyone recommend the best place to search for him? Is there somewhere were I can search for landlords during this time?

He was "the late James Blake of Inverin Lodge, County Galway" per the marriage announcement in Freeman's Journal, 31 May 1853

Thank you :)
Not sure whether to carry this post on or put in a different forum? but I was wondering if anyone can help me find anything out on the said James Blake. So far I have found the following info,
James Blake Esq J.P d. 5 august 1852 in Galway.
Mentioned several times in the newspapers for treating his tennant cruelly.
Uncle of Patrick Blake Esq of Gortnamona.
Children
Richard Blake 1829 - 1862
Jane Blake (married John Church Colquhoun) 1830 - 1865
Henry Blake b. abt 1839
Anna Blake (married a Rev P.S Newman)
Arthur Blake
If anyone can help with anything it would be greatly appreciated! I've been trying to locate the death record or will for James Blake but can't seem to find it anywhere? Nor can I find an birth / baptism records for the children.
If this needs to go in a different forum please let me know and I will move it :)
