Title: Access to original Halesowen parish registers
Post by: Tom Langley on Wednesday 17 July 24 17:17 BST (UK)
Hello, I am wondering if anyone has access to the original records for a baptism please. Prudence Little who was baptised on 7th June 1778 in Halesowen and Oldbury, Worcestershire according to the England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 on FindMyPast. I dont have the specific church sadly. Th parents are listed as Gabriso (Gabriel) and Sarah but I am hoping that Sarah has been mistranscribed, so to prove my theory the mother was called Mary.

If anyone also has access to the Staffordshire originals too I want to check her burial date - 24 Sep 1832 • St Michael's, Brierley Hill. Info taken from the National Burial Index For England & Wales. Wondering if the year may be wrong based off some other records I have seen.

Can anyone help?

Halesowen

It looks as though a visit to a FamilySearch centre or affiliated library is required

Brierley Hill,

I am only coming up with this book. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1626042?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Presume she is Prudence Addleton at death?
but I see Haddleton also recorded for a baptism of a child.

The original OPRs are on Ancestry, surname Littley I'm afraid they do note Gabriel & Sarah.

Thanks for the guidance and confirmation. It’s a weird one, I can’t find two separate Gabriel Littley/Parsons but there is clearly two having children at the same time (just prudence in the case of Gabriel and Sarah).

Looking for prudences death to be confirmed too as the same situation occurs with her husband Benjamin haddleton

With Mary he had Susanna, Thomas, rhoda, Samuel and Samson between 1771 and 1786.

One theory was he married three times and married a Mary, then Sarah and then a Mary but can only find the one marriage.

Doesn’t help the family used an alias so went by little/littley or parsons.

Gabriel Lyttley to Mary Muchall
Marriage Date   11 May 1769
Marriage Place   Halesowen, Worcestershire

I guess the mothers name on the baptism for Prudence could be an error, I do not see any other marriages for Gabriel in the County.

Hi Tom
Ancestry has the Bishop's Transcripts of Worcestershire parish registers, as mentioned above.
I was in Worcester this morning so checked the microfilm of the actual Halesowen Parish Register Volume 10. Prudence's baptism states that she was the "Daughter of Gabriel & Sarah Little". Not Littley as on the Bishop's Transcript)
The only Gabriel Little in the Worcestershire Marriage Index, which doesn't seem to include Halesowen marriages, was Gabriel Little to Sarah Print on December 20 1784 at Beckford which is about 40 miles from Halesowen. . .
Regards
Jack

Beckford was in Gloucestershire until 1931. There is the baptism below, 7 miles from Beckford, his parents also Gabriel & Sarah, I do not see another Gabriel in the County and of course he may have be born elsewhere before 1750.

Gabriel Little Baptism 21 Jan 1759
Prestbury, Gloucestershire, his parents married there in 1747.

If this is the correct Gabriel for the 1784 marriage in Beckford, he could not have married Mary in 1769 or had Susanna in 1771.

The Bishop's Transcript actually shows Little as well but has been mistranscribed by Ancestry. The "Y" shown on the image is the old fashioned th with an e above it ie Little the 7th (looks like Little Ye 7th)

Thank your for that. I did not have the information about Samson. Perhaps I need to start using FreeReg as well, particularly with it being free!
