Title: David John Lewis
Post by: roycymru on Sunday 14 July 24 08:13 BST (UK)
Hello

I am hoping you can help. I am trying to find out more information about the below goal record, particularly who the mother (and therefore possibly the child) involved might be:

David Jno Lewis, age 28, B.abt 1894, birth place Pontantwn, committal date 09 Feb 1922, Committal Carmarthenshire City, Discharge 08 Mar 1922, location Carmarthen Prison.

He was jailed for non payment of maintenance fees.

I think David Jno is David John Lewis born 1893 to a James Lewis 1871 and Sarah Thomas 1871 on 11 May 1893.  In 1911 the family were living at Tycam, Pontantwn, Llangendeirne, where David John is just referred to as John Lewis.

This is them in 1911

(In his actual birth record his birth address is Brynsych, Llangendeirne. His birth date corresponds to a David John Lewis in the 1939 register living at Noyaddwilym Lodge 1, Cardiganshire, with wife Elizabeth Evans and children. They married in Cardiganshire in 1923. There is only 1 David John Lewis birth registered in Carmarthen 1892-1894. There is no David John Lewis register in Cardigan during this time).

Just to add; that in 1921 David John is still with his parents and siblings, this time called David John. He is single, address Tyfri Van,  Pontantwn, age 28yrs and 1 month which calculates to a birth in May 1893.

It says Bastardy arrears so was there must have been a Bastardy order in place for him to be imprisoned.  Have you checked if the RO hold any details?

Attached is 1921 Census for this same house.

We are not allowed to post information from the 1921 census, only what is available to view free of charge.  You will need to remove that image
