Hi trying to find what became of x2 great aunt Eliza Annie wood of Guernsey, only shows in 1921 census in UK,after that hard to know what records are her etc
-
More info please
No birthyear given? No details given as to where she was living in 1921 or who she was living with? What was her occupation in 1921?
1911 for the CI has an Annie Eliza Wood b 1875 Guernsey - is that her?
-
Should be her, born round 1873/74, no idea of occupation in 1921 as she was in England during the census,1911 census has her listed as household companion
-
Your opening post suggests you have her 1921 entry in which case you should know where she was living in England, who she was living with & her occupation.
Have you looked for a possible marriage or death after 1921? www.freebmd.org.uk
Have you found her on the 1939 register?
You refer to her as Eliza Annie but all censuses pre 1921 refer to her as Annie E
-
Hi
In 1921 she is single 46 and in Camberwell
from free search keyword Guernsey.
That may help.

partly why i do carole is because her mother was elizabeth, it was a victorian trend to name the oldest same sex child after the mother hence my thinking around her being eliza annie, eliza being short for elizabeth & actually was no easy feat trying to search record by record on FindMyPast to find her in the 1921 census, common names don't help
-
It is quite a common name and unfortunately we don't know whether she remained in England or returned to the CI.
If you had her actual birthdate you could search for her on the 1939 register
There is this marriage in Camberwell but I have ruled it out as George was only born 1905 & the death reg shows Annie as Annie Elizabeth b 1908
Marriages Dec 1928
Caffell George E Camberwell 1d 1653
Wood Annie E Camberwell 1d 1653

hiya carole logically she would have stayed in england post 1921 as her parents came from pribright surrey & morcombelake dorset so she would have had cousins, aunts uncles etc in that lower region of england, her sister lilian died pre the 1911 census & her four brothers , two of which emigrated before ww1 were in nz , a brother his wife & five children were in nz by 1921,22 & all four brothers had established themselves in nz so it may be possible she visited one of her four brothers here in nz being the only close surviving kin she had. her parents died in 1923 & 1926 on guernsey in st peters port in a building that at the time was a hospital but building now serves a different purpose, by 1921 she would have been deemed a spinster so hard to know if she married or not
-
so annie eliza appears in camberwell london in 1921 on the census with elizabeth hickman also a guersey born woman married to a lad from cornwall so elizabeth's maiden name/pre marriage connection to annie Eliza is unknown but elizabeth & her husband john are some 12 years older than annie eliza at both 58 respectively
-
If the Hickmans had any children in 1921 look their births up on freebmd & if they were born from mid-1911 onwards it will give Elizabeths maiden name
There may be no family connection - Annie Eliza may have been a live in servant
Does the 1921 entry show her as Annie Eliza or as Eliza Annie?

Hi 1921 census has her as Annie Eliza wood,ni daughter of the hickmans with them on the 1921 census,so maybe passed on or living in a school somewhere outside of Camberwell,in 1911 Annie Eliza had been a companion live in to a older woman in st Peter's port, more like a nurse aid then servant per day, looking after the older woman's physical health etc,she seems to have remained a spinister, hard to say if Annie Eliza came to nz to visit her four brothers or move here, but she was in regular contact with her brother John ,my x2 great grandfather by letters etc so anything is possible

update* so after alot of digging & i mean alot of digging, thanks in part to a friend of mine shirley based in england, we collectively found annie eliza wood died in 1968 in Guernsey aged 93 she doesn't come up on find a grave but is buried in COE cemetery st johns in guernsey with younger sister & parents, her name was hidden on the headstone due to the sheer volume of overgrowth but shirley had a guernsey based friend finding annie eliza buried in st johns cemetery with her parents & sister, overwhelming relief to finally have closure on what happened to her
-
Finding out what happened to Annie Eliza wood my x2 great grandfather's older sister has given me solace & broken down one of my longest standing brick walls,it's not often that many of us break down a tricky brick wall, her grave is on findagrave but her was hidden by the overgrowth so doesn't show on findagrave but does in photos taken from within the cemetery of her family headstone,it's a good feeling to finally know what happened to Annie Eliza even if there are blanks in her life story it is solace to have closure

Kind Regards
