Post by: carol46 on Monday 08 July 24 18:25 BST (UK)
I've got a John Bartlett born 1795 in Basingstoke married to Jane Barnes around 1817 time I have there children. But been unable to find his parents or those of Jane as well. Any help most appreciated 👍 Thanks.

Hi,

Could you please include details (or a link) of all relevant records involving either John or Jane, i.e. census returns, burial records etc. Where did you get an estimated birth year of 1795? It would be helpful also - in future - if you provide details of their children.

I can see that John Bartlett married Jane Barnes on 17th July 1815 at Basingstoke St. Michael. One of the witnesses was an Amelia Bartlett.

Is this the couple in 1841?:

With son, John, in Basingstoke.

Assuming that Jane (born c.1781) lived until the 1851 census, there is this entry:

A widow, with sister Hannah Hussey (b.1778). They both have a birthplace of Ellisfield, Hampshire.

There is a marriage between a Hannah Barnes and James Hussey in Cliddesden, Hampshire in 1814.

Looking at the Ellisfield baptism records, there is a Hannah baptised in 1778 to Thomas Barnes. 2 years later, there is a sister "Jenny", which is a diminutive form of Jane.
