Hello,
I am trying to locate the children of James and Elspet Campbell- but am a bit confused by dates!
The only marriage I can find for a James Campbell and Elspet Campbell (Campbell is also her maiden name) is in Little Dunkeld (which is where I would expect them to be) in 1790.
However, I have found the following birth entries on Scotlands People for James and Elspet's children:
CAMPBELL, DONALD 28/09/1783 LITTLE DUNKELD
CAMPBELL, JAMES 20/03/1796 LITTLE DUNKELD
CAMPBELL, JAMES 20/03/1795 LITTLE DUNKELD
CAMPBELL, ARCHD 18/05/1800 LITTLE DUNKELD
CAMPBELL, MUNGO 02/08/1798 LITTLE DUNKELD
CAMPBELL, MARGRET 03/02/1790 LITTLE DUNKELD
I have paid to look at all the entries and they are all in Meikle Logie, which is as far as I can tell is a tiny hamlet near little dunkeld, and is where I expect to find my ancestors at this time. So I believe that all these children are the children of my James and Elspet. But then the marriage must be wrong surely, as several of the children are born before 1790? I can't find any other marriages between a James Campbell and an Elspet Campbell. If anyone can shed any light on this I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Fiona

Sorry forgot to say the marriage is in March 1790, so Margaret would have been born the month before and Donald several years before.
Also, surely there can't be 2 James's born exactly a year apart? If it wasn't the exact same date but different year I would imagine one of them had died in infancy and they had used the name for the next child. But the exact same date seems odd.

How old were the parents when they married?
Is it possible one or other had been previously married and had a child or children.
The exact birthday is unusual but possible, is there a death for the first James?

No idea how old they were when they married.
I only know their names from their son Archibald's death record.
I can't find a death record for an infant James Campbell.
