Hi All
Can anyone advise me on how to go about getting or finding a copy of a war diary of The 54th Divisional Signal co, RE for April 19th 1914.
Thanks in advance Coppernob

As far as I can see the 53rd and 54th Divisions that are Not Scanned in the War
But you want Pre War ?

I beleive that what Alamo means is that War Diaries are not opened until a unit commences warlike operations. War was not declared until 28 July (by Austria-Hungary) and Britain did not officially enter into hostilities with Germany until 4 August 1914.

54th. Div. Signals war diary starts Sept. 1915.

Thank you all. My mistake with the date, I should have checked my own records.....
Should have read 1917, my gt uncle was apparently mentioned in a diary, which I know was unusual as he was not an officer. He performed an act of great bravery and would have been recommended for a Victoria Cross had the witnesses/officer lived to do so.

Can you give a name & date & in the meantime I'll get the link to the diary.
There are 2 locations Ancestry (sub needed) & the TNA (free).

Re-checked the diary & it finishes Dec. 1915.
Neither Ancestry or TNA have any more.
The RE museum has these diaries:
54th Divisional Signal Company
09 Jul 1915 to 31 May 1916 and
01 Jul 1916 to 01 Oct 1919
