I thought the first letter looks like The S in Scott

I will put up the whole certificate. It is the death of their daughter Jean.
I want to go one generation back but need a surname to do so.
Many thanks

As an alternative, could it be a capital H? Haw?
-
It could be Hawson?
I know the last part of the name is on the next line. Son.
So something ending in son
This is a 4-year brick wall that I would like to knockdown
Carol

It looks like Hawson with Haw and -son on the line below. See Carol has beaten me to it.

I've been looking at it for 4 years but not sure.
Will have to go on Scotland's people and see if I can find a Jeanie, Jean, Jane Hawson marrying a John Scott.
Thanks for all your help.

Could it be Fulton?

Looks like Hawson. The -son is a continuation of the surname

Yes. I agree with Waynenort. Hawson.

Carol, when searching for the surname, this one will have variants in spelling for sure.
Might be worth searching for it as H*ws*n. I have seen the following variants: Hewson, Howson, Howston, Howstown etc....
