Back to Rootschat after long illness. Before I was struck down I was told that Ancestry had two family tress with the name John Henry Roberts (my grandgrandfather born in Mynydd Llandegai in 1848) on them. Could anyone confirm this so that I can join/not join Ancestry.
Good to be back.

There is a tree for a JHR born 1848 Bethesda parents unknown - spouse Annie Hughes
Is this your JHR?

Welcome back Quarryman & hope you are feeling much better.
There are 9 trees in all that have John Henry Roberts, some have his birth as Llandegai & others Bethesda. 3 of them are private & one actually has a photograph of John Henry. It states he was a Music Professor & Died in Liverpool 1924.

Thanks guys. Yes, my JHR married Annie Hughes in Caernarvonshire,
and yes my JHR was professor of music and died in Liverpool 1924.
Can I retrieve trees by joining Ancestry?
Thanks for your help.

There is an article in the about his death in the Liverpool Echo, on 31st July 1924, which says that he was "An organist in Penrallt near Bethesda, at the age of twelve."
Perhaps that is why some have Bethesda, rather than Llandegai.
David
P.S. The 1921 census has birth place Bethesda, as does one of the earlier censuses. The rest have Llandegai.

To be honest there isn't that much information to see on the trees we mentioned, but you would be able to view the public trees or send a request to the people who have private trees asking for information or to view. You could join for a month for the basic Ancestry for £10.99. If you would like me to look for something in particular please let me know & I'm sure other RootsChatters would help too if they can.

Hi Ellenmai,
Have gone back to 1683 for John Henry's ancestors, John Parry and Lowry Williams, who married in Lansannan, Denbighshire. If it is no trouble, how far back have the Ancestry family trees gone - names if possible!
As for JHR marriage - his wife was NOT a Hughes, she was a Williams from her mother (Ann Williams nee Thomas) who married a Griffith Williams in 1845. Hughes was the name of her second husband. JHR and Ann/Annie (who was pregnant) married, according to family history, "well away from prying eyes" in a civil ceremony in Bangor/Bethesda

It seems as if you have gone much further back than the other public trees. Two have John's parents as Harri Roberts as father & Elizabeth as the mother, with no other information on them. There is just the one that goes further back. It states JHR's father was John Roberts born 1808 Llansantffraid- died 1878, then his father David Roberts 1771 Caeathro- died 1841 Llanrug. Lastly David's father Richard Dafydd (David) born 1749 Llanrug- died 1841 Llanrug.
