There is a burial for Harriett Fortt 25 January 1804 at St Michael's  no age given, but would fit

as John and Ann Fortt had another daughter named Harriett 1805.

Notes
Sarah Fortt-  child - buried 1804  14 April
Elizabeth Fortt buried 1804 16 April- child

Elizabeth could be John's daughter born 1801

Thank you very much I have been having trouble with this.

Who is the Sarah Fortt that died in 1804?

Could she be a daughter of James (b1792)?
-----------

in
Somerset, England, Marriage Registers, Bonds and Allegations, 1754-1914
page 189

I found

Name   James Fortt
Marriage   27 Mar 1825 Bath, St Michael, Somerset, England
Spouse   Margarita Blackmore

I think this is the James Fortt (b1792)
other than the right church though I am not sure it is the right James Fortt?
Title: Re: clarification on the siblings
Post by: amondg on Tuesday 25 June 24 02:54 BST (UK)
Sarah could be another daughter, although I haven't found a baptism to date.

There is a Thomas Fort/Ford and Ann also having children at the same time- more research needed
if the name was Fortt or Ford or if sometimes interchangeable.
-------
Joseph Fortt married Amelia Cutland 16 July 1806 so Sarah did not belong to them

where I went screwy last time was with

Charles Henry Fortt
son of Thomas Fortt and Eliza Tucker

last time I tried to make movement on this I ended up with a different Charles Fortt that moved to Wales. I found that this was totally the wrong person of the same name. I ended up erasing even Thomas and Eliza when try to correct it.

to recap what I have in my tree

The right Charles Fortt that married Elizabeth Bethell
Marriages Dec 1863   Fortt    Charles Henry   in Bath    5c   1236
as far as I can find they three Children one of which died young.

1. Jane Eliza Fortt (Eliza) who I have fallowed down two more generations to living people

2.James Charles Fortt
BIRTH MAR 1864 • Walcot, Bath, Avon, Somerset, England
DEATH SEP 1864 • Walcot, Bath, Avon, Somerset, England
(I found the records in the GRO)

3. James Charles Fortt (same name as brother that died young)
FORTT, JAMES CHARLES mother BETHELL GRO Reference: 1867 J Quarter in BATH Volume 05C Page 708
I found his baptism which had a transcription error of Fartt rather than Fortt
after that I can't find anything on him

I have looked for a death and marriage record but got nothing that stands out as him. So, if anyone can find out what happened to him that would be great.

So in 1871 Charles is a widower with just his daughter Eliza living with the Bethell grandfather And Elizabeth’s death in 1869.

I would be suspicious of this death

Deaths Sep 1870

I had to clear a bunch of hints from the Charles Fortt in Wales and look through the 1871 census to find the right Charles Fortt census.

Since the 2nd James Charles Fortt born 1867 is not with his father and sister in 1871, I assume he has died although he could be elsewhere.

That James Ford death is possible to be James Fortt B1867

I have two James Fords born in somerset that it could of been yet I found their death records and isn't the one from bath

Births Dec 1866
Ford    James E        Keynsham    5c   679    (mother SHEPPARD)

So, I am trying to find a death date for this Charles Fortt. I think i have him in a 1901 census so likely after that. unless I made an error

I am also missing the 1881 census for Charles and his daughter Jane Eliza Fortt.
Jane was married in 1883 to Frank Bull had two kids and died 31 DEC 1884 • Lyncombe & Widcombe, Bath, Avon, Somerset, England

I might have Charles on 1881

He's boarding with a Sarah Tucker in Bradford on Avon in 1901 (a relative?)

Back in 1881 she and husband David have a number of lodgers including a Charles Ford aged 40, a widower b Bath, occupation mason's labourer (same as CHF on 1901)

Piece 1925, folio 25, p 4

Charles also with Sarah in 1891

There's a couple of Eliza (and similar) Fords b Bath c1865 on the 1881 census. One's a domestic servant in lodgings in Bath - possible?

Is the 1901 you have the Charles Fortt, age 60 boarding with Sarah Tucker in Bradford on Avon?
Is she a relative of his mother?

Anyway if so, have you ruled out the one whose age is 10 yrs out, but dies in 1906 B on A.

(Crossed with Mabel)

The Eliza Ford lodging with a Charlotte Bryant looks possible to me. Although Charlotte has a different place of birth to all her other entries.

alright thank you thank you.

I am now back up to Charles Henry Fortt surviving siblings

to recap what I have

William James Fortt
B:Abt. 1832 Somerset, England

all I have on him is a baptism and 1841 and 1851 census

Baptisms at Walcot St Swithins
William James Fortt 11 January 1832

1841
Piece   970
Book   12
Folio   33
Page number   11
--
1851 • chatham barracks, Walcot, Somerset, England
William James Fortt could be an Army Private Chatham Barracks Walcot Somerset

I found a possible death for him on find a grave but it is hard to tell if it is the right person
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/222693593/william-fortt

---------
as for
Elizabeth Fortt ???
B:1834 Lansdown, Bath, Somerset, England

multiple people have her
married to
Joseph Harris Patrick ???? but the documents don't line up. I have found no marriage record of that. None of the patrick children listed on their tree show up in the GRO even though they are in the right time to be there.

so I am not sure about the marriage?

The William Fortt burial looks to be in the same grave as a Mary Fortt b 1795, died or buried 16 May 1846 with an address in Milsom St

There are some other Fortts in that graveyard - might be worth seeing if there's any connection

Have you not looked at Joseph in the 1861 census? A big clue there I think.

The William Fortt here is my 3x great grandfather a museum exhibition was done on them in 2013.
I fair sized book was also written on their business Called "Biscuits, banquets & Bollinger.
This is the right William Fortt for this family. I have tons of information on them and where very interesting to research .

For the A 10 Grave this Mary Fortt (nee Fisk) died in 1846. is that the right date on the grave you found?

Important to clarify her child William Fortt (jr) from the above names is buried with her????

I have had issues with finding the right William Fortt Chid for William and Mary.

Most people on Ancestry have mixed up my third great grandfather son William Fortt born 1831 Bath, Somerset, England with William King Fortt.

William King Fortt is the son of
John Fortt who is William Fortt seniors' brother (one of his siblings I actually have information on)

Where did you find the grave?

for this family I have extensively run down most of the lines to living people or one generation off that.

I haven't been able to move past my 5th great grandparents Joseph Fortt G85F-LLR
and Elizabeth nee Virgen MHC1-22V (known as Betty)

I have included their family search ID numbers since I have so little on them.

So, for this Family I made much progress since the first posting.
I went over some things again and found that I have had the Wrong birth and Parents for Ann Bishop.

So, I am back looking for my 4th Great grandparents, her mom and dad.

She would have been born ABT. 1767 as stated by her death age

GRO Index Registered at Bath September quarter 1847 vol 11 page 34 Ann FORT age 80 (this is from earlier in this thread) death 12 Sep 1847

she married John Fortt
5 Nov 1789 • Bath, St Michael's Without The Gate, Somerset, England

we sorted out their children, but Ann's parents are still in question.
