Title: Ann Conner Nee Foster - Walker Northumberland
Post by: O.R.A.W.M.U on Saturday 22 June 24 10:15 BST (UK)
Morning

I’m looking for the parents of Ann Foster.

I can’t find a birth record to match.

She looks to have been born in 1886 Walker Northumberland.

Ann Foster married William Conner in 1907 Tynemouth

I believe they had six children.

Daughter Isabella Conner born 1909 Walker married Robert Cherry in 1930 Tynemouth.

As yet I have not purchased a marriage certificate. If no joy this will be my next step!

Thanks

The 1921 Census shows that Robert Conner, wife Ann and children Isabella; Mary; Ann; Sarah and Elsie living in Walker. Ann states that she is 36 years and 1 month of age and born in Byker. The 1939 Register shows the family living in Wallsend, Ann states her date of birth as 20th May 1885 -- DOB ties in with birth registration of Annie FORSTER shown below.

A search found a 6 year old Annie FORSTER, born Byker, father Robert, mother Eleanor (Smith -- marriage Quarter 4, 1875, Newcastle)

Still looking for a birth registration / baptism

Thank you AllanUK that’s a great help!

So Forster not Foster! That may be why I’ve been hitting dead ends!

Children Birth records registered as Foster as an error maybe.

https://one-name.org/marriage-locator/

Marriage Locater indicates the 1875 marriage of Robert Forster and Eleanor Smith was at St John, Newcastle

You would be able to get this marriage entry info from Tyne and Wear Archives, Newcastle.

There is a chance the Tynemouth registered marriages could be looked up for free if these were at the below Churches shown on link for Church codes:

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=550486.msg4037731#msg4037731

Email or otherwise contact the registrar's office and giving freebmd info ask for the venue code.
North Shields local studies holds records as does Tyne and Wear Archives.  North Shields local studies is much easier to access so therefore much more user friendly in my opinion.

https://one-name.org/marriage-locator/

Marriage Locator can't exactly pin point the 1907 marriage but it might be worth checking out St Luke, Wallsend, anyway.

Annie Fail Forster married a William Arthur Hornsby. And is in the 1939 register as Annie Hornsby.

Still looking at the “Annie Smith Forster”

Looks like back to the drawing board.

Marriage  Locator indicates 1878 marriage was as St Paul, Howdon Panns.

If you got the Church code the 1907 marriage might be able to be found for free at the local studies.

This is the contact to ask for the code via phone or email:

I have this memorial up on Find a Grave which I added a while back.  I was sent edits for her birthdate in the last few days - 12 Aug 1886 and for the bio.  Presumably this is the Ann of this thread?

Yes I think so, but now I’m not sure on the DOB after some confusion over the parents. I do believe it’s still the correct person.

If this is the right person then it would seem that whoever registered the death also gave that date as her date of birth.  As this date shows on freebmd as birth date.

Although, it could be possible that the year of death might be inaccurate as back in the day some people seem to have been more flexible about age.
But then again the whole birth date could be correct.

Did you know Ann's full cremation record will be at North Shields local studies?  The first half of the 1970s are on microfilm and can be very detailed; much more so than the burial entries.  This might include things like cause of death, etc.

Still looking for help on this one… After more searching the original suggestions for parents, unfortunately they didn’t match up.

The below is a post I also put on a fb group with all the info I have.
But no responses.
———————————————————
Can someone please try and help me find parents of Ann Foster/ Forster. I’m really at a loss on this one.

Ann Foster
Born 20 May 1885  in Byker, Northumberland.

Potential:
1891 living at 7 Melbourne Street, Foreign Trade, All Saints, Northumberland
John Foster B: 1860
Hannah Foster B: 1864
William Foster B: 1885
Ann Foster B: 1886
Johns occupation Shipyard Labourer ( this matches Marriage cert of Ann & William)

Ann is listed as the adopted daughter of Robert and Margaret Lillie in 1901 living in Walker.

William Connor and Ann marry 20 May 1907 Tynemouth registry office.
John Foster is listed as deceased, a shipyard labourer.

Ann and William are later boarding with the Lillie’s in 1911 at 46 River View Walker, William a Plater Boilermaker (Ship)

1920-31 they look to be living at 46 Fisher street, Walker.

1939 they are living at 28 John Street, Wallsend. William a Shipyard Plater (Heavy Work) a few doors down from their daughter Isabella and her family.

I’ve searched GRO Birth records for Ann’s and  possible brother William’s birth with no joy.
I’ve hunted for a marriage of John and Hannah Foster with no joy.

Potential death of John in 1895
Can’t find a death for Hannah.

There is an 1884 marriage for a John Forster and Hannah Mures as a possibility?

Marriage Locator indicates this marriage took place at St Peter, Newcastle.

Son William Forster born 1885 mmn Muirs

Possible .. Ann Forster born 1886 mmn Muras

but she would not fit the 1885 birth date you have given. ???

Newcastle death notice listed for a Hannah Forster in 1892 published in Evening Chronicle 29 March
GRO gives age as 28

Thank you River Tyne Lass <3
I’m going to check out your reply’s now and see if they fit with what I have.

That potential death of Hannah will tie in date wise to Ann being adopted by the Lillies as she was with them by 1901.

The 20 April 1885 date of birth for Ann comes from the 1939 register.

I have added a William Conner to Find a Grave whose wife is Ann Conner - the latter born 1886.
These two are both showing in the Tynemouth online Books of Remembrance - look under 31 August

Yes, do let us know if you discover any fit with what you have when you have checked things over.  That is good that you can view Hannah's death notice.
Does 1939 birth date for William match the one showing on Find a Grave 15 Dec 1884?

I’ve attached a section of the death certificate for Hannah that n 1892. I can’t make out what the cause of death is.

It states husband John Forster was a platers Keeper.

Yes the 1939 register matches Williams DOD as 15 Dec 1884 :)

I think the above thread relates to Hannah's cause of death - phthisis pulmonalis - in other words TB.

Gosh, you have managed this death cert quickly!

Yes, I agree it all seems to be very promising.  I wonder if there was an error made by someone when date of birth for Ann was provided for 1939 register?
